| Victor_Phoenix05-17-06, 06:13 PM | This is an idea I have been thinking about for a while and I will be implementing it into my next game. A new stat called Heart. Heart is a stat that describes the power of ones soul. Courage, honor, soul born abilities all stem from the Heart as such they stem from the heart stat. Some of my idea’s for things that run off the heart stat are: Sorcery, Holy abilities that stem from the soul, Fear resistance, death attack resistance, and my newly introduced action pool all stem from the heart stat. My idea’s on how it works. Sorcery is simple change Charisma as the casting stat to Heart. Holy abilities that rely on the Soul such as a Paladin’s Divine Grace ability Fear resistance I think making the Heart the conduit for attempting to stave off fear sound a bit more heroic than using one’s wisdom. Death attack resistance with the exception of those that require fortitude saves to resist many death attacks describe taking one soul and doing what not to it I just don’t that this is justified with wisdom. Heart is a stat that determines a person’s souls strength and connection with his our he body. Please looking for other idea's for the heart stat to pertain to as well as feats and things that would go good with ones strength of soul. |
| Vapthorne05-17-06, 09:39 PM | Personally, I see this Heart stat as redundant. For the following: -'The power of ones soul' is pretty defined as Charisma. And, if Heart is a replacement for CHA's abilities, it'll only make Charisma more of a dumb stat. -I don't like how Heart adds another mechanic to saving throws. I do agree on you with will saves, and thinking Will Saves should be based more on Charisma. |
| Waterhammer05-17-06, 11:06 PM | I tend to agree with Vapthorne on this. On the other hand, go ahead and playtest it, might be a good idea. |
| ideasmith05-18-06, 01:31 AM | Why not rename the Charisma stat 'Heart' for your campaign? Just use the rules for Charisma. |
| Bulletproof_Condom05-18-06, 01:43 AM | What exactly does this add to the game? I'm not seeing it as necessary. |
| Xeviat-DM05-18-06, 06:04 AM | I'm using a Void stat in my games; all characters gain bonus MP from this stat (casters too, they don't gain bonus MP any other way), and characters can spend their MP like action points. The score also powers turn attempts, some typeless supernatural abilities, and psionic feats. But for more standard games, you'd be better off expanding Charisma. But remember; charisma is an active stat, like strength, so it's abilities should be active. |
| JulesCARV05-18-06, 07:00 AM | It makes sense to me. I've proposed the same thing occassionally, though I call it the "willpower" stat. "Wisdom" would then be changed to "perception." The only problem is that willpower would end up being very overpowered (a sorcerer/cleric mystic theurge would turn/rebuke undead, cast divine spells, cast arcane spells, and make will saves based on the same stat. The only thing she couldn't do would be diplomacy and spot/listen checks.). Perception and charisma would be underpowered. I think your idea makes more sense than the current system, but it would have to be fairly extensively reworked in the context of the whole game. |
| Victor_Phoenix05-18-06, 05:10 PM | Very true it is a little to much to completely change the whole system for just one stat because I agree with JulesCARV Here is a slightly on the fly revision. It adds three new house rules and I will be play testing this later this week. The new house rules are as Follows Heart The power of ones soul is judged by his heart. Some have more heart than other and their shear determination pulls them threw. Hearts main in game effect is it grants you an action pool. Your action pool is equal to your heart stat's modifier. (Example: if your heart stat is 14 / +2 your action pool is 2) Your action pool is a pool of dice useable a number of times per session equal to your pool. You spend an action point to add dice to a roll. The number of dice rolled starts at one and increases one additional dice every 5 levels. You must decide to use an action point before you make the roll. Merits and Flaws These game statistics add a new level of customization to your character. Merits depending on the merit are useful abilities than have a small cost. Flaws are disadvantages that allow you to role-play a certain disabilities and get repaid for the disability in another way. The points of merits are a cost that must be repaid either as a penalty to one or more ability scores or double that penalty to 3 or more skills You may also purchase merits with flaw points. (Example: Klaven a Level one Sorcerer like the idea of using his heart stat as his spell casting stat so during character creation he chooses the Soul of Magic a 2 point merit. Now he must take a -1 -1 to two ability scores ,-2 to one ability score,-4 on three or more skills or find a flaw he is willing to role-play that costs the same amount.) (Example: Rico has taken Weak Soul a 3 point flaw. Weak soul gives him a -2 to his heart stat and a -1 dice on Action Pool dice. He must then decide how to spend his point by giving 1 skill a +3 or 3 skills a +1, adding a +1 to an ability score and a +1 to a skill or by purchasing a feat Merits 2point Soul of Magic All of your spontaneously spell casting class’s casting score is now Heart. Heart replaces there original for Spell dc’s and bonus spells. 2point Soul bound Will Your will save is now modified by your Heart Modifier. Add your Heart modifier to all will saves for fear and death attacks. Your May Dm allow for other abilities to be modified as well. |
