But I think it would be interesting to introduce them to resolution mechanics. I've got the first Basic Game and thinking of running them through that. But I'm not entirely satisfied with the rules. If all goes well and they like it and get attatched to their characters, I don't want to have to start over when they hit 3rd level because the skills don't work normally. I'm thinking I'll just give the players race and class options and make their starting characters for them so they can concentrate on learning the playing part. For races, I'll stick with human, dwarf, elf, halfling. For classes, I like Fighter, Cleric, Rogue, Sorcerer, but I think I want to slide Psion in there. I don't know if that's a good or bad idea. Skills The list of skills from the Basic Game just seems so short. But Ii know the normal list is kinda long. I don't haev any intention of making them deal with skill points, and I don't really want to deal with skill points myself if I make their characters for them. I'm thinking of using one of the options from UA, and combining it with a stolen list of condesnsed skills. Feats I'll probably ask them what they want their character to be good at and pick the feats myself, or ask for help from the CO peeps. If it goes for a while, I'll try to introduce them to picking feats and such. Message Board I am a little concerned about pace. Not so much the rate at which they level, but how to handle battles and their description. Player1: I swing and I. . . . *rolls* 14 ~4 hours later~ GM: You miss. ~3 hours later~ Player2: Can I go yet? GM: No, Player1 has to describe missing. ~5 hours later~ Player1: . . . and I miss. ~9 hours later~ Player2: Okay, I swing and I. . . . *rolls* 16 I think you get the idea. Any suggestions on handling that? |

If so, be sure to read the Forum Handbook before posting. The turnaround on posts can be days, or weeks for these games. Not hours. Not sure I understood the question. Hope this helps. |

Building the character from the ground up at level 4 might help, especially if the player wants to change something. Second, pbp gaming is a bit slow, but most DMs can streamline the process. I, for instance, play for anybody who doesn't post for three days, then kill off their character if they don't post for a month. Speaking of which, I need to kick my current pbp game after UnCon's over. You may want to check out the chatrooms if you're looking for something faster. You can also arrange something over any instant messaging client with friends. |
