| Ryan_Singer04-23-04, 07:14 PM | So, I would like to run my game with the wealth system from d20modern. My method for generating price DC's is I will take the $->DC table and translate it such so that 1 Silver = $2. That means that 1 GP = $20. Has anybody else done this? What issues have come up in your game? Naturally, that also means I'm using the Gamble and Profession skills from d20modern.-Ryan |
| Lina_Inverse04-23-04, 07:29 PM | its kind of impossible to do within game balence.why?because pcs are assumed to have massive quanitys of cash.i mean massive, lets take your math. a +1weapon is something any 4th level fighter type should have. so 2000gp*5=10000$ but, they should only have >ONE< the game has very spefic tables about how much wealth pcs should have at that level.lets not forget ye olde magic item creations, look mah 25exp for a new item and no cash. it just wont work out. i hate forced magic. |
| Ryan_Singer04-23-04, 08:09 PM | I'm sorry Lina, but I don't understand your arguement. Just because the Wealth system does track individual gold pieces doesn't mean that there is no money system...there is still a purchase check and wealth lost to create a magic item, the DC = items DC - 3. anything that costs more than 5 gold always incurs at least a point of wealth loss, no matter how rich the pc. I don't understand the offence you are taking at the dollar conversions either, that should never show up in game, it is a one time calculation converting the Purchase DC table to DnD rules. Could you please simply spell out your problem with using the wealth system from D20modern while mentioning the specific rules from D20modern that you have a problem with? Thanks.-Ryan |

In modern times, where d20 Modern is set, there are so many things which count towards wealth. Finding 20 dollars on the street doesn't really enchance your wealth score, whereas finding 20 gold enchances the amount of money you have. |

The wealth system CAN do thousands apon thousands of gold without breaking. The modern finainces arguement is an issue. Anybody have thoughts on whether or not the wealth system (which can do what lina is complaining about just as well as the normal system) would work in a setting without modern convienances? basically, what I am trying to do is to cut down on paperwork without hurting game balance.-Ryan |

| Pagan priest04-25-04, 10:34 PM | The wealth system is really and truely geared toward a social system that includes things like dividend checks for owning stocks, interest bearing CD's, lines of credit, checking accounts, steady paychecks and all that other clap trap. IF a DM has put in enough work into his world and has studied history, real world midevil or rennaisance banking practices might be available. Things like letters of deposit and bearer bonds. Still doesn't bring up the complexity to the levle where using the wealth check system makes any sense. I can't see not using the weath system in the modern world, but I can't see any reason to use it in anything remotely like the typical D&D world. |
