Well, fact is I think hit points sucks, and right now I'm using the Vitality / Wound variant system.

BUT, I'm thinking of trying to make a damage save system for D&D, but I'm not sure what the consequences of this will be?
The damage save system is used in games like True20 or Mutants & Mastermind.

I'm just not sure what this will do for combat?

Faster, slower, more dangerous, more epic, more random?

I'm not familiar enough with the system to adequetly comment, but my suspition is that it will add a degree of randomness to each combat strike. After all, there is equal chance of rolling a one, a ten, and a twenty (unless you are using 2d10, of course). I myself usually use a variant of the Wound / Vitality / Reserve system.
