I am running a campaign using the taint rules (corruption and depravity) from Heroes of Horror. I was going to incorporate the taint rules from UA and Oriental Adventures until I purchased HoH. In particular, I was going to use the ancestor feat Resist Taint and the spells concerning taint from OA. My question is this- Isn't the Pure Soul feat from HoH a little over-powered as it completely eliminates one's concerns about acquiring taint?
Should I still use the spells from OA since there are spells HoH for dealing with taint?

Yes, I think the feat is overpowered, and do not personally allow it. Other DMs may feel differently, depending on how dark a campaign they want to run.

I'd probably stick with the spells in HoH, as they are more updated, and theoretically mesh better with the exact taint rules you are using.

The problem with the 3 different taint rules is they are just flavor revisions of the previous. OA taint rules are almost straight out of Legends of the Five Rings, they are ment to be used with the Rokugan campaign setting, and are pretty setting specific, but could be used with others with some revision. UA revised them to fit better with 3.5 and so that they are more general, able to be thrown in anywhere, simple but usable. Then HoH comes along and revises the UA general-use taint, making it so its alittle more complex, deeper, and giving more options to it.

The UA and HoH systems of taint are largly different in flavor from the OA taint. In UA and HoH, taint is a physical force of evil that attempts to corrupt, but can largly be overcome by the pure of heart, and is cureable. In OA, taint is the physical manifestation of evil, it is corruption at its purest, there is no way to overcome it without some major epic divine intervention, hell, its so corruptive it even corrupts gods, so even the divine must struggle against it. The only way to resist it is with Jade, but all that happens is the jade becomes corrupted over time and it crumbles to black dust, so even that is no garentee. It is the be-all-end-all of evil. And because there is no readily available cure for it, once you're tainted you're :censored:.
