Which do you guys feel make for the best "alter-alignment" Paladin variations? Unearthed Arcana's "Paladins of Honor/Freedom/Tyranny/Slaughter" variations, or the alternate Holy (and Unholy) Warriors from Dragon Magazine's issues #310 and 312?

Personally, I'm divided, but one thing I like about the Dragon versions is that they cover EVERY alignments rather then just the four "alignment extremes"... The Lawful Neutral Enforcer alone makes it worth considering: It's like having Judge Dredd as a PC...

Definitely Dragon Magazine versions.

Some of the dragon magazine PrCs had some really stupid codes of conduct.

The CN variant I remember couldn't ever fulfill his word or a contract or something stupid like that.

The True neutral had some weird restriction too... Something about staying away from planar travel.

On a quick glance it seemed like a lot of these were unsuitable for adventuring characters and seemed more like NPCs.

I didn't think they mae a TN holy warrior.

As for the codes of conduct, the Chaotic ones can be difficult, mainly because people often interpret it wrongly. Most thing chotic people have one set way of acting, with no variations. This causes trouble when someone who must act chaotic all the time enters the stage.

The C holy warriors can never be a part of an organization or let someone have authority over them. I didn't read the part about not keeping to your word (though the CE could have been that way.)

I started getting Dragon at issue 313, and haven't been able to find the earlier issues with the alt. paladins in them.

CoC aside, is there much mechanical difference between the UA variants and the Dragon variants?

About as much difference as between Vampire: The masquearade vampires and D&D vampires.

In other words: Completely different. Trust me, the game mechanics are only slightly reminiscent of each other.
