Greater Improved Critical [GENERAL]
Prerequisites: BAB +10, fighter level 10
Benefits: chose a number of weapons equal to half your fighter level. Apply the Improved Critcal feat to each of those weapons. if any of those weapons have keen edge or are already have Improved Crit on them, increase the multiplier by 1(i.e. a x2 crit would be a x3)
Special: you cannot chose a weapon for Greater Improved Critical twice(but you can chose it with Improved Critical)

Dragonic Age [DRACONIC]
Prerequisite: Draconic Legacy
Benefit: Age as dragon lives, with your maximum life at 1201 years, plus 5d% years more. you only accrue penalties/bonuses as a dragon does.

what do you think? any comments/improvements will be hot, and if you dont like it, plz no flames.

Greater Improved Critical is too powerful. It's been done a hundred thousand times. What you did was mathematically the same as doubling the threat range again, and your prerequisites are far too low for that. Increase the BAB to maybe 12, and the fighter level to 12-14, and it might be considered balanced . . . don't count on that from many of the more conservative posters, though.

That secondary aspect of the feat, allowing you to apply improved critical to more weapons, is just overkill. It's virtually useless (I say virtually because it can be useful, for ranged weapons and unarmed strikes, but will never be anywhere close to game breaking due to how a fighter will generally use his signature weapon to the exclusion of all else), but still gives more power to an already overpowered feat. I would consider this feat balanced at the current prerequisites if you took off the increased critical multiplier altogether.

that feat was more in regard to the age-old debate, "why does fighter suck" and i meant to put the ftr req at 10, i'll edit, but the point was to make a fighter be able to branch off, to become something other than a useless kensai wannabe(altho it is a good multiclass).

so if i make the prereq block say
ftr 10 (no BAB, b/c ftr 10 has +10)

then how would it look?
and what about that draconic one?

Not true. A Two Weapon fighter will need that; most fighters should have several weapons, for overcoming Damage Reduction, or a morphic weapon that can change it's type (which then needs multiple feats). With 2 weapons, a ranged weapon, unarmed strikes, and grapple, there's 5 right there. This feat pretty much takes the Fighter types back to 3.0, where Improved Crit and Keen stack; I see no harm in that, as it isn't particularly more broken than ANY of the full casters. Providing versatility helps, too; that is one of the Fighter's biggest weaknesses.

Grapple is not unarmed. You can still get the Weapon Focus trees for grapple, although improved critical does not help, since you cannot critical on a grapple check.

And versatility is not a bad thing. I agree, versatility is what a fighter really needs. What you have given, however, is power, plain and simple. I do believe I already agreed that the versatility part of the feat was quite good, and balanced, as well, although, now that I think of it, I would likely base the number of additional weapons you get off of your intelligence (2+intelligence modifier, most likely).

I forgot about TWF. I usually use the same weapons for it, because the OCD says so, heh. :embarrass

Like I said before, though, grapple checks cannot critical, so that's 4. And, depending on the campaign, a fighter may or may not have that additional weapon to bypass damage reduction. The reason it slipped my mind is because I can't have that extra weapon in the campaign that I play in. The DM has a houserule that limits the number of items you can carry to a number of slots, like in a videogame. Two on the back and two on the hip are all the weapons you can carry, so if you plan on having a backpack . . .

I have no idea what a morphic weapon is. Tell me what it does, that way I can argue about it with you. ;)

I'd rather not take fighter types back to 3.0, thanks much. There is a reason 3.5 was released, after all. ;)

And frankly, I'm sick of the whole "Fighters suck" arguments. Yes, a fighter is not as powerful as a caster, and rightly so. If a fighter could swing his sword once and do 15d6 damage to everyone in a 20' burst, just so that they were even with casters, there would be even worse logic and realism problems than already plague those hardcore realism fans out there.

The fighter is slightly underpowered compared to the rest of the classes, but you don't need to make extremely powerful feats to do that. Mostly, the problem with the class is versatility.

But just as the Fighter (or even simply any combatant) is weaker than a caster at some point, so, too, are they stronger than a caster up until a certain point. Fighters are clearly better than casters at low levels, and they have an easier time making do with low point-buys or poor stat generation methods.

Each class has its own pros and cons. A party of wizards will die on the first ambush. At least one of the players will then by wishing he had made and "underpowered fighter."

It's a magical enhancement from somewhere alloting a weapon to change into I think any other weapon as a standard action i think. It meant that DR that could be passed with a different damage type was very easy to overcome (Although if you have enough one-weapon-only feats it might have been better to stick with that one).

The critical thingy is overpowered. A weapon with 18-20 x3 criticals is equivalent of about x5, x6 or x7 critical (don't remember which, but large). A rapier with 15-20 x3 is, frankly, all too powerful.
masterofmayhem

09-24-05, 04:31 PM
It would be a x5. 18-20 x3 = 19-20 x4 = 20 x5, etc.

09-25-05, 08:46 PM
yeh, but what damage is that? when a fireball does 10d6, or a disintegate does 20, whats a 15-20/x3 crit? really tho?

It's considerably more powerful once that wizard has run out of spells and becomes a commoner with the simple weapon proficiency feat, that's what it is.

So, by you logic, it's fair to allow a fighter a 15-20 x3 critical threat range as long as every attack he makes allows a reflex save equal to ten plus his strength modifier for half damage? Or a fortitude save to reduce the damage to 3d6?

Oh yeah, and fighters can get, say, 8 attacks a round to the wizard's 1. Throw in quicken and the wizard gets two, but a fighter could also get, theoretically, some 30 attacks with the right prestige classes, feats, and such. Oi, dervish.

Oh, it just occurred to me, l33t Shinobi, that your Draconic age feat is a wee bit powerful. The epic anti-aging feat gives nowhere near that number of years of life. I don't know how you get draconic legacy, though. Is that another feat? A sorcerer thing? An Unearthed Arcana flaw/trait??
l33t Shinobi

09-26-05, 10:22 AM
its a complete arcane feat. it has prereqs of 4 draconic feats, and to take any, you have to be sorc. so. for 5 feats, you can live for a very long time.
Gilean

09-26-05, 10:48 AM
It would be a x5. 18-20 x3 = 19-20 x4 = 20 x5, etc.Well, no. That breaks down with the combination of high threats and multipliers.

i think unless you play a gestalt campaign, this wil balance out. if you want to get a huge crit, you must do so at either high levels, where caster dominate, or to the exclusion of all else, in which case, you wont be much good anywhere else.

Ah, OK. Five feats? Ouch.
Well, no. That breaks down with the combination of high threats and multipliers.
Sorry, what? Is that wrong? If it is, then what is the right way of doing it? I know that it works something like that, but I can't remember if it was supposed to be doubled to increase the multiplier or what. Feel free to expound on your answer . . .

I really like the idea of letting Imrpoved Critical work for more than one weapon with an extra feat. I think I'd go with fighter level divided by 3 or 4 instead of lvl/2, but whatever. I like the fact that it's fighter levels. Good boost.

But I think that's plenty powerful enough without ALSO doing more damage.

i suppose that was the muchiness in me coming out, but it is late gaem, and the only ones who are going to get it are career fighters, or ppl who gish 1/2 ftr for HP and BAB and feats.

suprisingly few ppl have talked about the draconic feat, which is suprising. by the way, masterofmayhem, what is the epic anti-aging feat?

Ahhh . . . Right, then . . .

feat, which is suprising. by the way, masterofmayhem, what is the epic anti-aging feat?

EXTENDED LIFE SPAN [EPIC]
Benefit: Add one-half the maximum result of the character’s race’s maximum age modifier to the character’s normal middle age, old, and venerable age categories. Calculate the character’s maximum age using the new venerable number. This feat can’t lower the character’s current age category.

Special: A character can gain this feat multiple times. Its effects stack.

Yes, see the less-than-spectacularness of the feat? That's the high regard they have for immortality . . . Goodness knows enough elf fanboys/girls crave their immortal fairies jumping form tree branch to tree branch firing off severall hundred arrows a minute with pinpoint accuracy.

gilean: why? please try to back up your posts with support/evidence.Do you know the feat called improved critical? The one that increases your threat range by doubling it? +8 BAB is the requirement. The creation of yours can be taken 2 levels later, is far more powerful, has double function. Higher requirements would certainly be in order.
How about this little variant: The feat allows keen and improved critical stack, in addition to extending the effect of improved critical to several feats (say, 3+int modifier)?

 yes, but Imporved crit can be taken by anyone with +8 BAB, mine can only be taken by the fighters. the feat you suggest is almost identical to the OP, unless you mistyped, and need an edit...

Gilean, thanks for trying, but I seriously doubt we will be able to convince him that the feat is too powerful . . .

If his DM allows it, well, they will either learn from their mistake, or prove us wrong (if it is a lenient/power game).
Gilean

09-29-05, 11:06 AM
the feat you suggest is almost identical to the OP, unless you mistyped, and need an edit...It allows the feats to stack and does not increase the critical multiplier (because it is BAD). It is better balanced, pure and simple, while still having the same concept.

A) None. Broken. Or fighter level 18+ as a requirement. Perhaps only 16+. Requires weapon focus(specialisation tree and improved critical.
B) An epic one. Requires devastating critical, epic and greater weapon specialisation, epic and greater weapon focus...

Something like that.
