Somewhere on the boards someone had mentioned an idea about removing the favored class and instead granting a favored feat. So this is not an original idea.

The premise is that a PC can forgo having a favored class and instead gain a favored feat. If a PC does this, anytime he multi-classes with a level greater than one, he suffers XP penalties. In return the PC gains a predetermined feat based on racial stereotypes. Here is a list of examples that my group uses:

Human: any skill related feat (skill focus, open-minded, +2/+2, etc.)
Half-elf: any +2/+2 feat (negotiator, investigator, athletic, etc.)
Elf: Magical Aptitude
Dwarf: Toughness
Halfling: Stealthy
Gnome: ??
Orc: ??
Goliath: Auspicious Marking

I can't remember what we allow for Gnome and Orc. Perhaps Spell Focus (illusion), and Weapon Focus respectively.

I'm looking for opinions on feats that seem suitable for this idea. With the exception of Human and Races from other books (Goliaths, Illumians, Raptorans), the feats should be from the PHB only. If you have a suggestion for other races, please include them.

are you trying to make humans less viable.

and wait, how does the worst race for being a wizard have magical aptitude? ;)

The feats shouldn't be that great. If you plan to play a single class PC (OMG is that possible?) than taking this option is better for you. Humans are the most versitile. They get any skill based feat and can access other books.

Elves have a Wizard for the favored class. They are stereotyped as inherantly magical. I'm sticking with that theme.

Now, offer some feedback in the form of feat suggestions and race suggestions. :D

Women. :D

Okay we agree on two points, Elves are gay and half-orcs are dumb.

Now, why would you give gnomes combat casting? *Braces for Response!*

because i need some feat to give them.they have a built in spell focus so thats out.and i wanted it to be something to aid wizards.so i figured combat casting worked,as its a crappy wizard boosting feat.

Okay, let's make a list of possible feats for the gnome that can relate to the stereotype:
Combat Casting: gnomes typically use illusions requiring concentration for duration
Diligent: gnomes have an affinity for gems and decipher script could be useful along the same lines as Bardic Knowledge
Magical Aptitude: seems appropriate for a natural spell caster
Nimble Fingers: representing there stereotyped tinker alterego
Spell Mastery: applicable for illusion spells only

Any thoughs?

spell mastery is only applicable for wizys to boot.
i dunno,a +2/+2 feat seems silly since bards get them anywho.

Half-Orcs should get Power attack, seems right to me.

Looking back on my first list of Favored Feats, I gave Half-Orcs Endurance and Gnomes Investigator. As Lina pointed out with the Spell Mastery idea for Gnomes, you need to have a feat that is general to all classes. What if the PC decided he wanted to make a wizard Half-Orc? Power Attack would hardly be worth the trade.
