How about a better Web enhancement for UA? [Archive] - Wizards Community

The web enhancement for UA is a nice teaser, but it is really bland, how about a real web enhancement? Here are 5 topics I think would be perfect:

1 - More Racial Paragons (Avariel, Duergar, Svirfneblin, Half-Drow, Orog, Aasamir, Fey'ri, Genasi (all 4) and Tanarukk)
2 - Prestigious Character Classes. How about the Hexblade as a PrC?
3 - Character Flaws (the more the merrier, make roleplayers and min/maxers happy)
4 - Armor as Damage Reduction for monsters. Some monsters have covers hard as diamond (which would mean a higher DR from AC) while others are as soft a human commoner. An updated AC/DR Table for the MM would be welcome.
5 - Spell Points and Character Classes. Official Tables of SP per level for the Battle Sorcerer, Assasin, Blackguard and other classes that use the same progression.

Is anybody at WotC listening?

I second the votes for 2, 3 and 5. 4 is intuitive enough for me and I don't care for paragons but I can understand where someone would want those.

Seriously, let's get a less embarrassing web enhancement. Other products have decent ones with some degree of intellectual property but there's nothing intellectual about a photocopy of some little chart thingy. While I appreciate this feature they provide, this particular one had the most potential out of the last few and exhibited the least effort.

I also wouldn't mind another web enhancement, but I should point out that #4 on that list is already covered in the book. Check the "Natural Armor" subsection of the Armor as Damage Reduction rules.

i also think they should have done a better web enhancement. There is already a checklist in the back of the book, albeit not as comprehensive. I'd really like to see a web enhancement for the legendary weapons; more of them and a small tutoral on how to make them balanced. Some of us might have trouble doing this without a guide. They could do it kind of like the did for the Bloodlines, where they showed you what to put in where if you wanted to make your own.

Darn good book though anyway, i think it's the best DM resource book to come out since the DMG.

Some more Incantations would be sweet.

Actually, the web enhancement was a direct result of a poster asking WOTC_Mark or WOTC_Andy for the checklist to be published as a teaser. I thought it was cool to see the staff listening to and accomodating their customers.

Hopefully another web enhancement will be along shortly.

I don't think that any other web enhancements are planned for UA (you never know, but we only have so much time to devote to each project), but I'll see about maybe putting up some related material on my site in the near future.

As I'm already thinking about including racial paragons in my new campaign, I could do some for the races I'm using that aren't represented in UA (such as aasimar and gnolls).

Fair enough :D Is the list of races already final or can we vote :bump: or beg  ?

thanks in advance

If the Unearthed Arcana Web Enhancement will be released under the Open Gaming License then that's great. If not, then it is best to focus your resources on next new products, be it D&D, Forgotten Realms, Eberron, Star Wars, or d20 Modern.

P.S. Would have been a lot better if most Wizards' Web Enhancements are released under the OGL.

I'll be checking regularly. Again, I'm pretty sure we're all thankful for the web enhancements, but this project seriously was the largest expression of WotC's intellectual muscle that I've seen since release and its web enhancement is also the lamest.

Anyone who can download the checklist can also probably type it up.

It wouldn't be a bad idea for Wizards to commission you to make them a nice little web enhancement. Who knows, maybe they'll hear this. Until then, I'll bemoan the wounds of fortune. ;)

Wasn't there supposed to be some sort of Warrior priest cleric variant in UA that got cut for whatever reason? I wouldn't mind seeing that in the future.

Doesn't sound familiar.

We didn't really have any "cuts" from the book. There were some concepts that never came to fruition (such as a d20-modern-style "wealth" system for D&D as I mentioned in another thread), but I don't think that anyone wrote anything of any size that didn't make it into the book.

Okay. Read a rumor a few months ago that there was going to be a cleric with full BaB, but less spellcasting. Most likely it was merely a rumor, probably inspired by the paladin variants. Thank you for answering.

And no thanks whatsoever to Krelios who decided to be a smartass.

As I posted on another thread, I would have liked to have seen some alternate Combat Styles for Rangers, much like what was done for the Monks. I agree that this was the lamest Web Enhancement to date. Must of these I save unto disk or CD; this one I downloaded, printed and deleted it in the space of about two minutes.

Why do we need WotC to do all this?

We are all smart, able bodied people. Why not make our own racial paragons, character flaws/traits, and spell point progression.

Everyone else is doing it in all the other forums with custom PrCs, feats, classes, races, items and everything else. Maybe one day, we might even make a compendium like the PrC one.... :cloud9:

Since the Shifter (from Eberron) has already been revealed in Feb.'s Dragon, could you possibly include a paragon for it in a future update?

Assuming that the Eberron races don't become OGL--and I don't have any insight into that, so don't bother asking--I wouldn't be able to address those on my personal website, no. (As the happy player of a shifter character, though, I'd certainly love to see even more cool options for this race!)

As far as official web enhancements go, understand that simply writing "free content" for our products isn't very high on R&D's priority list. Thus, you're not likely to see more iterations of the same stuff (more paragon classes, more bloodlines, etc.). With UA, that's particularly true, since the rules are Open Content: *anybody* can write more of these, either for free or for sale.

We're keener on writing material that actually supplements--"enhances," you might say--the product: stuff that makes the book more useful to the reader. (Skip's dragon lair in the Draconomicon web enhancement is an example--something that applies the rules presented in the book in a manner that's useful to the owner of the book but doesn't really overlap the content of the book itself.) We're still working on that concept, though, so web enhancements tend to be all over the place thematically.

That sounds like the Battle Sorcerer: better BaB, less spellcasting.

But isn't that what Web Enchantments are? WotC enchantments?

Um. I'm pretty sure you meant to type, enhancement. Most WotC web enhancements are rather nifty, but I'm not going to agree that they are enchanting.

Well to be honest I did mean enchanment... but thats cause I'm a little dyslexic And I have looked at the Web Enhancements page dozens of times... and never even noticed that it said that.

All this time I thought it said Enchantments hehehe

No, none of the above is even related to topic. Enchantment is a school of magic.

Web Enhancements are downloads online that are set up to add content to games.

But in either case, no one needs this material, we just think they came up short this time. That's all.
