| Althor Enchantor08-19-04, 01:15 PM | In a nutshell, in order to have two classes at once like that, you needed twice the XP to level, ie 2000 for lvl 2 instead of 1000, 6000 for lvl 3 instead of 3000, and so on. My DM even allowed up to four classes to be taken simultaneously, proportionately multiplying the requisite XP. |
| Jarlaxle_The_Rogue08-19-04, 03:39 PM | Hmm... For me the point of gestalt characters was being stronger but having more challenging battles and stuff. Besides, no matter how much experience you need you wouldn't be receiving the appropriate challenge for your level as long as he stuck with sticking monsters with CR equal to the parties lvl in front of u. |
| jkovacik08-19-04, 03:45 PM | If your DM is using Gestalt and regular classes mixed, that seriously punishes Gestalt characters. 1.5x might be more appropriate, but you shouldn't mix gestalt with normal classes. While Gestalt characters have more abilities and usually better all-around saving throws, they can still only make one action per turn just like every other character. Although personally, I just threw XP out the door for my Gestalt campaign and level them up whenever I feel like it. It also means the story switches from 'must kill/overcome everything' to... well, ok, they still try to kill everything, but my paperwork is reduced. :) |
| Jarlaxle_The_Rogue08-19-04, 08:43 PM | Hmm... thats actually a pretty kool idea - getting rid of Exp. But I think it would get rid of the feeling of accomplishment whenever you gained a level. But thats just me... |
| DM Zoc08-19-04, 10:16 PM | Most DMs I know use an arbitrary system for EXP. We get so many thousand every few sessions, to make up for the fact that we rarely ever see combat. It just doesn't make sense to me that the only way to improve your abilities is to kill things. |
| Jarlaxle_The_Rogue08-19-04, 10:20 PM | nonono! thats not what i'm saying. Ther should be RP rewards and stuff whent he situation calls for it, but just gaining Lvls whenever the DM feels like it would take awya the sense of accomplishment I think, of building up EXP and all that stuff. |
| jkovacik08-20-04, 11:54 AM | If you still want the sense of accomplishment, simply tell your characters that you're tracking XP in secret, using your own formula, instead of handing it out. Then advance them arbitrarily as above. :) |
