How to mix Class Defense and Armor as DR ?? [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-02-05, 12:20 PM I'm going to start a new campaign in some time and i'm looking through variants in UA. I need some help with mixing the defense armor class variant and the Armor as DR. The problem I have is that some armors become useless as they have the same DR but different AC, but as you probably use defense bonus from your class what do you do with those armors? How do you handle magic armor? Magic armor gives a bonus to AC instead of DR, but bonus AC to the armor is useless as you have your defense armor class bonus.

d20 Modern stack Armor's equipment bonus and Class Defense Bonus to Defense.

If you are using the systems exactly as they are written in the UA, then yes, armor AC's will become insignificant compared to defense bonus (even magic enhanced armor in some cases), however the Damage Reduction granted by armor is what keeps armor beneficial to those who choose to wear it.

I use both of these systems in my campaigns, but I amend the defense bonus by not allowing its use if a character is caught flat-footed or denied a Dexterity bonus to AC. This makes wearing armor all the more justified. I also use a class ability from the Wheel of Time campaign setting, Armor Compatability, which allows Armsmen (or Fighters ITC) to combine their class defense bonus with their AC adjustment from armor.
