| DragonBringerX07-17-06, 03:35 AM | ok...some people think that the half-elf is just plan weak in comparison to any other race... so i was thinking on giving half-elves the skill boost of a human (that way there more human like too) my other varient was a 1st level only a human can choose to forgo the extra skill points (4) to treat a (only 1) skill as a class skill no matter what class(es) they pick up! well any suggestions... |
| allenchan07-18-06, 12:50 AM | Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. I offer half-elves +1 skill point per level OR a bonus feat, and let them choose. |
| Darth Sephiroth07-18-06, 06:24 PM | MY DM offers a feat to half-Elves |
| Cheza07-19-06, 11:46 AM | Why do you think half-elves are unbalanced??? Human: +1 feat +4 skillpoints @ lvl 1 +1 skillpoint / level (>1) Half-elves: Immunity to sleep effects +2 racial bonus on saving throws against enchantment spells or effects Low-Light Vision +1 racial bonus on Listen, Search, and Spot checks +2 racial bonus on Diplomacy and Gather Information checks Additional Languages: Elven The +2 racial bonus on Dipl. & Ga.Infos is equal to an extra feat (Investigator or Negotiator). So the skillpoints of human characters should be equal to low-light vision, 1 bonus language, +2 saves vs. ench. (compare to spell defense & greater spell defense) and +1 to Listen, Search and Spot. _______________________________ If you compare Half-Elves with Elves: Elves: +2 Dex, -2 Con weapon proficiencies (rapier, longsword, longbow, shortbow) +2 racial bonus on Listen, Search, and Spot checks Detect secret doors (5ft.) restricted additional languages Specific favored class Half-elves: +1 racial bonus on Listen, Search, and Spot checks +2 racial bonus to Diplomacy and Gather Information checks unrestricted additional languages no favored class Since ability modifications should nearly compensate themselves and racial skill bonuses should be balanced, the only differences are: proficiencies & secret doors vs. more additional languages & no favored class. I think it's quite ok. SO if you change anything, it shouldn't change balance. I would suggest the following options: Half-elves: +1 Dex; -1 Con That's not really an "official" option, cause a -1 could cause a ability mod. decrement and the +1 not a sure increment. But if you play with a buy system, this could be quite ok. Half-elves: Weapon prof. (1 spec. weapon of the elven prof.) A good choice for any class without martial weapon proficiencies. my other varient was a 1st level only a human can choose to forgo the extra skill points (4) to treat a (only 1) skill as a class skill no matter what class(es) they pick up! Sounds quite unbalanced, if you allow any skill. So Disable Device, Listen, Open Lock, Search, Sense motive, Sleight of hands, Spot, Tumbel, Use Magic Item for any non-expert subclass could be a problem. If the character really wants them, he should take a second class. |
| Thane2642507-21-06, 03:47 PM | I usually give the Halfelf a bonus feat, usually in place of the +2 on Diplomacy and Gather Information. It used to be that Half-elves were outcasts, though not to the degree than Half-Orcs were. So, exchanging the social skill bonus for a feat makes sense to me. |
| DragonBringerX07-23-06, 02:08 AM | what about my human varient...???? |
