| RadicalTaoist09-29-04, 09:31 PM | Instead of a d20, roll 2d8+1d6. Subtract 2 from the final result. Gives the exact same range (1 to 20) so no need for adaption, but far more often mid range rolls. Criticals become much less likely though. |

I prefer 2d10 for less campy games, and 3d6 for gritty/realistic games. Yes, for balance reasons, crits *may* need to be adjusted, but it also depends on the tone of the campaign. For realistic games, you might not want as many critical successes. Combat crits can be adjusted by simply adding 1-3 to the critical threat range.
