| Evil Orchid07-29-05, 05:00 PM | I think it's Unearthed Arcana that goes into characters with celestial or monstrous bllodlines, but is there such a thing as a human with an illithid bloodline? :coolcthul Of so, how would the stats look? *just looking for interesting monster ideas.* |
| Ogg07-29-05, 05:18 PM | The closest you get is the 2 Gith offshoots in the Expanded Psi handbook. They were a humanoid race heavily tampered with by Mind Flayers, of course they hate them now, and each other |
| Contrast07-29-05, 05:33 PM | The possibility of an Illithid bloodline was discussed many times in the Unearthed Arcana and Houserules section of the message boards. The consensus was that, no, there cannot be such a thing as an illithid bloodline. |
| Vestigial_Thumb07-29-05, 05:46 PM | Yeah, the illithids are asexual creatures, so no bloodlines for you  |
| Manyfist07-29-05, 05:54 PM | The only thing close is Half-Illithid, in which a Tadpole Illithid goes into a Non-Human, they reproduce the same manner as Illithid, but they never get too. Illithid kill them and throw their corpses to the rest of the Underdark. |
| WraithCaller07-29-05, 06:09 PM | Well, actually, the reason why Illithids don't have 'bloodlines' is because they don't reproduce in a traditional sense. They lay eggs, which grow into tadpoles, which they insert into the heads of host creatures. The closest thing you could possibly get would be a half-illithid, which results from a tadpole inserted into the head of a non-mammal host. Pretty much, only humans, elves, drow, githzerai, githyanki, grimlocks, gnolls, goblinoids, and orcs produce true illithids. Tadpoles inserted into anything else produces a half-illithid, which would be infertile. Two example half-illithids are Tzkandi (half-illithid/half-lizardfolk) and Mindwitnesses (half-illithid/half-beholder). |
| magmer208-06-05, 12:17 AM | "bloodlines maybe the result of unusual supernatural energies during conception pregnancy, or birth" I think that an illithid blood line could come about if a pregnant what ever got mindblasted by an illithid, or if that happened during conception. |
| Khan the Destroyer08-06-05, 02:26 PM | I don't know where the information came from, but there is reportedly instances where ceremorphosis leaves the humanoid body intact but changes the mind of the creature. What you have is a creature with an Illithid mindset and psionic abilities while still remaining humanoid in appearance. The Illithid use these creatures as spies. One of these creatures can possibly reproduce with a human or something and create an Illithid bloodline. |

Ceremorphosis can go wrong in so many different ways (neothelid is the best example). I'd guess the creature becomes lawful evil and gains the mental ability scores of a regular illithid. Sounds a pretty big LA to me :) |
| neilthrun08-21-05, 04:56 PM | Just saw this and felt like mentioning that a shapechanged mindflayer could produce some kind of crazy bloodline. Much like half-dragons. |
| magmer208-23-05, 12:21 AM | I think most of you are reading into the name of the system and ignoring the flavor. According to unearthed Arcana the paternitymight have something to do with getting a bloodline. Getting the blood line from a polymorphed illithid is just as likely as getting it from a mother who ate nothing but raw illithid brains for her whole pregnancy. Just something for people to consider. |

What, so now there needs to be a tainted one template for illithids? |
