Instead of suceeding on a DC 10 check to aid someone granting a +2 to their check I was thinking about changing it to granting a +1 for ever 5 points of the aid check. Seems to me that someone with a stength of 30 would be able to offer more help on a strength check than someone with a strength of 10. Same with anything actually the better the helper is should allow for better help. |

I wrote an Improved Aid Another feat a while ago that let you do it in place of an attack rather than as a standard action, so you could be aiding multiple people at the same time. There's also an ancestral feat in Oriental Adventures called Improved Aid; the action's the same but it's a +4 instead of +2. It's tough to come up with a single feat and say "That is improved aid another" because there's so many ways you could do it. |

I have seen several feats that imrpove aiding, but my idea was for changing the mechanic for how adding worked, not for adding a new feat. Perhaps I should have had a different title. Anyway, I think I may kick it around, and keeping in mind that the players can get more aid, thus thinking about how if at all it should affect DCs. |

| belthazzar111302-01-06, 02:45 PM | the way we worked it was that if you made your check vs 10 you added plus 2. if you made your check vs 15 you added your ability mod (or +2 if that was better) this houserule was made after we realized that the strength 34 half dragon and the strength 8 wizard were both going to be adding the same amount adding in pulling open a door. strange situation, but that rule has worked for us so far. |

In one of the options does something similar to what you suggested. (This is in addition to the regular rules) When a character with 5 or more ranks in a skill uses the aid another action to assist another character’s skill check, he can grant a higher bonus than that described in the Player’s Handbook. For every 10 points of the helper’s check result above 10, the circumstance bonus increases by 1. Check the book to get the rest of the information and the other options. |

For example, if you want to give a +3 bonus, the DC is 15. I think this way adds a nice amount of tactical thinking to aiding another - you can shoot for a higher bonus at the risk of getting no bonus at all. Chris |

Thanks for the tip, I didn't realize that was in there... Complete adventurer was is one of my favorite "complete" books, I think it was the best written. |
