My gaming group has played with this house rule for several campaigns now and, although we rarely advanced high enough to fully take advantage of it, we thought that this should have been in the rules anyway.

With any skill that grants another skill a Synergy bonus due to having 5 or more ranks in said skill, for each additional 5 ranks increase the Synergy bonus by +1. For example, a 14th-level Rogue with 17 ranks in Bluff receives a +4 Synergy bonus to all Sleight of Hand skill checks.

I use a simpler version that also balances out with their epic synergy rule that 20 or more ranks nets you a +4 bonus.

For every 5 ranks in a skill you recieve a +1 bonus to all synergies.

5 = +1
10 = +2
15 = +3
20 = +4
25 = +5

and so on. It gimps the synergies a little bit at the lower levels but then balances out.

We don't get anywhere near epic levels. The highest our group has gotten in 3rd Edition is 12th. If we got to epic, we'd probably nerf their synergy rule.

... Nerf it? yours is already as powerful.

at 22nd level, using normal epic rules, a max-rank skill would provide a +6 bonus.

using your rules, it would also provide a +6 bonus

Yours is just more incremental, instead of in large bumps.

Using normal epic rules at 20 ranks you get a total of +4

His rules are even more powerful than that, mine are balanced with it, although as I said at early levels you suffer some.

hmm, got mixed up a bit, i was thinking +4 increase to bonus, not +4 total
