This may have been hashd out before but I was working on this for a character and am just a bit confused on a one thing:

With Invest skill ranks, so when you invest your 3 skill points and get the +1 bonus, you choose one skill to apply this to. Then you invest another 3 points and get another +1 bonus. Does it have to aply to the same skill? Or can you choose another skill? So eventually you can have like a +3 in this skill and a +3 in another skill and so on, and spread it out as much as you want or does it the bonus keep stacking and you just apply it to which ever skill you want to at the time. Like investing 18 skill points and getting a +6 and then just floating that around amongst different skills?

Also this item familair is for a psionic class. I know they offer spell slots and also access to spells and such but would there a be a way to give it a psionic slant?

From the SRD:

For every 3 ranks he assigns to the item familiar, he gains a +1 bonus that he can apply to any single skill. This bonus can be applied to a skill in which he already has maximum ranks. He can apply multiple bonuses to the same skill, but he may not have more points of bonus in a skill than he has ranks.

You must specify which skill gets the bonus, and the bonus cannot be more than your ranks in that skill. You may apply additional bonuses to the same skill, or other skills. No floating bonuses, however.

Adjusting Invest Spell Slots for psionic use could be tricky... For casters, you move one of your highest level spell slots to the familiar. You can still use this slot, and you gain a bonus slot for a spell two levels lower. Perhaps you could invest enough power points for a single unaugmented manifestation of your highest level power known and gain enough bonus power points for an unaugmented manifestation of a power two levels lower? I have a few other ideas, but this one fits the flavor of the arcane item familiar best.
