| Nefos02-16-07, 08:43 AM | I have some questions to sen on the table about improvement of Item Familiars. (i'm new in the forums so i dont know if the questions below are allready answered) i have recently found (in the campaign i'm in) an inteligent dwarven waraxe and my char fullfills the requirements to wield it. The item has inside the first owner of the weapon that was a high priest of Shaundakul and is a +4 adamantine dwarven waraxe with 3 lesser abolities and stats of INT 10, WIS 15, CHA 15 and CL 15. the first question is : Wha happens if i choose the item familiar feat? will the weapon be improoved or not cause of my lvl (Cleric CL18)? if yes how many and of what kind abilities will i pass to the weapon? the second question is: How does the weapons stats increase due to my lvl increment? does its INT, CHA, and WIS increase or only the skill points that i pass to it or it impoves like an ordinary familiar (like having the improved familiar feet)? |

Maybe you should get an item of +casting stat for your item familiar. Wait, do item familiars have slots and can they wear stuff? As for your questions, I believe that an item familiar has certain features that increase in efficiency as your level progresses, but I don't think that increased caster levels is one of them. And even if it did, it wouldn't be able to cast any higher-level spells since its casting stats are too low. Secondly, I believe it improves like a normal familiar, but that should be stated for sure in the text (Which I don't have in front of me right now). |

| DrMorganes02-16-07, 11:01 AM | I wonder if you could cast Owl's Wisdom on an intelligent item. Nope. Here's the stat block from the SRD write-up of the spell: Transmutation Level: Clr 2, Drd 2, Pal 2, Rgr 2, Sor/Wiz 2 Components: V, S, M/DF Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Touch Target: Creature touched Duration: 1 min./level Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless) Spell Resistance: Yes An intelligent item is still an item, not a creature. No stat-boosting magic for your axe ;) As far as the Item Familiar goes: Based on the discussion here shortly after the release of Unearthed Arcana, I recall the consensus running along the lines of "if you acquire an item familiar at, say, Level 18, the familiar has all the abilities relevant to your Character Level." That is, you don't end up with a Level 3 item familiar when you take the Item Familiar feat at some point AFTER Level 3. |
| Nefos02-16-07, 11:14 AM | Okay i agree with that and its the only making most sence. Lets say that my char one day becomes a 23lvl char and cause of that my high lvl grants a Special ability in the weapon (that can be one of the existing tables found in the Inteligent Weapons section in SRD) what will the weapons stants be due to my high epic lvl? the same or they will increase? in the tables of how to improve a familiar i see that the familiar gains only INT bonus not Wisdom or Charisma. |
