TempestadiossA 03-27-04, 10:09 AM	Hi there y'all I've read the LA Buyoff rule on UA but still I can't figure out how it could be any useful...I mean, you can get rid of your LA of +1 but then you are 1 level lower than all the other people in the party so how is ur situation improved?
bootor 03-27-04, 10:41 AM	since you are 1 lvl lower you get more exp then rest of the party that is 1 lvl higher. Also if taken at a lowish lvl that exp lost would emount to a whole lvl a few lvls later.

Being one level lower you gain more exp per encounter so u manage to catch up with the rest of the party, cool! One thing....let's say I have a party of 5 lvl 3 chars and a Drow (which I let my players have for an LA of +1) buys off his LA. He's now a lvl 2 character. They face an OGRE, CR 3. How do I calculate the xp for each player?

Give the 2nd level PC 1/6 the XP from the encounter based as if he was 2nd level.
Vaelan 03-28-04, 05:49 AM	You'd still be behind in exp, but at higher levels(around 8+), the amount you'd be behind matters about as much as your race's abilities... funny how that works out, isn't it? :)
Empty Fingers 03-28-04, 04:21 PM	Buying off your level adjustment has no disadvantage whatsoever. Ex. I have +2 LA with 5 char lvl (ECL 7), about to get my 6th char lvl and be ECL 8. Now that I've spent my 28,000 exp, I'm going to stay at ECL 7. However, I have +1 LA and 6 char lvls. I just lost a LA and gained a char lvl, not to mention my next char lvl costs me 1000 less then it was going to. Not bad if you ask me.
