| Tikael08-28-06, 11:34 AM | I am looking for an alternate to the XP cost system to make magic items and the such. Has anyone else made/found one or am I going to have to sit at the computer for a while? Thanks. Edit: Found this http://d20.jonnydigital.com/2006/04/magic-item-xp-cost-variant Still not quite what I was looking for. |

Not just any masterwork will do, requires special materials (meteor iron, dragon's blood, etc), and the spellcaster must be partly involved with the creation. But it doesn't cost XP. Another version I read involved the spell not 'spending' XP, but instead suffering a short to medium to reduction in Max HP (like 1 HP per 200 XP, lasts 2 months or more). The idea being the wizard (et al) is investing a portion of his life force to make the item permanent, and it takes a while to recover from that... |

I will have to playtest to see how it works. Also I will have some items use rare components. good plot hooks that way. |
