| Hitokiri Battousai10-08-04, 03:29 PM | Ok, I'm working on revamping magic, and since my players tend to get upset when I use em as beta testers... thought I'd try to get some feedback here. 1. Mana Points. Each class gets a die for MP each level. So far I have Druids at 1d8 + Wis, Clerics at 1d10 + Wis, Wizards at 1d8 + Int, and Sorcerers at 1d12 + Cha. I think I gave Bards 1d4 + Cha, but that was in the 3.0 days, dunno if I updated it since then... and Paladins and Rangers, I use the non-casting version from Complete Warrior. Any comments on these amounts? They seem right, wonky, etc? Oh, for reference, spells use the following mana, from 0-level to 9th: 2, 4, 6, 8, 12, 14, 16, 20, 22, 24. Oh, and lastly, MP does NOT all come back each night. Like HP, you only get a certain amount back per night of rest. 3/level for a night, 6/level for a whole day. 2. Spontaneous casting: I have all classes spontaneously casting now, which instantly creates some balance issues... Wizards are ok(although with this change, I may as well just combine Wiz/Sor into one class...). Druids and Clerics, however, need some sort of limit on spells known once spontaneous casting is introduced. For clerics, I could make deity-specific spell lists, but for druids... any suggestions? 3. Nuke-ing: I've been reading here and there that nuke-ing becomes really weak later on... would adding +1/damage die help that at all? Should that just be how things are, or maybe should it be a feat? |
