hey all i was just watching full-metal alchemist. and i am absolutely in love with the way they cast! i am finding that i am inept at blancing a casting style so i was wondering if anyone could help me with this. mostly they simply scribe things and create different effects. the thing is though that most of them have thier very own spells as far as i can see. mostly they scribe them onto walls or metal items or just about anything depending on what kind of alchemy they use. iv also seen them use ntohing but hand gestures to call forth flame in the case of a fire alchemist. can anyone help me???

Well in the case of the Flame alchemist he uses ignition cloth gloves that have a transmutation circle on them. The different alchemist's do seem to have different affinities for certain alchemy's. Trying to wedge this free form style of magic into the 3.x DND system would be complicated. Though I would love to see it done. Alas I have no suggestions to help.

I made my mage before I saw full metal alchemist. I made him a transmuter barred from necromancy (IE, human transmutation) and abjuration (no parralels to FMA). I then took ranks in Geometer from complete arcane.

THEN I saw FMA, and everybody wants me to get cyberarms ;)

Firstly.. it would be incompatible with the dnd magic system methinks... I would recommend gurps for it with a completely new magic system. (or strip dnd of all caster types, including monks)

As fort he magic system itself. I highly recommend you read the MANGA instead of just watching the anime... and pay extra attention as they explain how it works... For one thing, there are various rules about it you learn later, you learn alot on how it works. And there are special powers etc.
Not to mention you learn the basic theory behind the system and some cool ways of doing it otherwise.

This will be a serious project to be playable.. you cannot use DnD.. you CAN use the D20 system, or another system, but basically you will be creating an entirely new setting...

Unless you have a few MONTHES in which you can dedicate hours PER DAY to the project, its probably not gonna be any good.

I will really recommend searching the internet for "full metal alchemist role playing game"... or some such phrase.. maybe a setting already exists :P
