howsit going, we are about to use gestalt char in our campaign for the first time and i was hoping for some comments on my choice.

what i was thinking is a human warlock/scout, with scout becoming a order of the bow initiate (OtBI).

warlock1/scout1: point blank shot, rapid shot
warlock3/scout3: weapon (focus longbow)
warlock4/scout4: precise shot (bonus feat), +1 dex
warlock6/scout6: weapon focus (ranged spells)
warlock8/scout7/OtBI1: +1 dex
warlock9/scout7/OtBI2: improved crit (ranged spells)
warlock12/scout7/OtBI5: maximize spell like ability (eldritch blast), +1 dex
warlock15/scout7/OtBI8: empower spell like ability (eldritch blast)
warlock16/scout7/OtBI9: +1 dex
warlock18/scout8/OtBI10: ability focus (eldritch blast), imp. init. (bonus feat)
warlock20/scout10/OtBI10: +1 dex

now all this is based on the belief that precise shot, skirmish and eldritch blast work together, which from what i've read should. im not sure if extended precission would apply to skirmish, but i think it should, but hey whats an extra 30 feet.

anyhow assuming this all works there is the possibilty, that at 20 level this gestalt could shoot off an eldritch blast dealing 12d6 + 5d8 (9d6 for EB, 3d6 for skirmish, 5d8 for precision shot) up to baddies 60ft. away. on top of that using empower, maximize, quicken i could do 54 damage plus 4d6 (9d6 /2) plus 3d6 (skirmish) then follow that up with a longbow shot equaling 1d8 plus 5d8 plus 3d6 for a total of 54 plus 10d6 plus 6d8 points of damage in a single shot for an average damage of 108, this is on top of any essences i toss into it (no blast shapes because that would cause me to lose the weapon like ranged spell classifaction thus not making it modifiable by skirmish and precesion) such as virtolic blast for ignoring SR.

anyhow, i know there things that are more damage heavy then this, but it seems like fun. what im looking for is thoughts on what i have put fourth. is it viable, does it even work, what invocations should i take, are there better feats then the ones i have chosen, the books i have to work with are the core books, and the complete series minus psionic.

Twippe: If your DM allows all of your choices to stack, then it looks good (I've never read OtBI so ion't know if they should stack). Just make sure you're still capable in combat against magic resistant/immune opponents or when you're outnumbered and make sure you have something to add to non-combat situations. (You didn't mention any other aspects of the character, so I don't know what else you're planning with him)

The greatest fun of gestalt characters is the nearly infinite variety, and the ability for your character to have meaningful actions to take in a greater variety of situations, so just keep an eye on something other than dealing the most damage to a single creature.

IIRC, scouts get a good number of skill points and a good class list for skills, so use that to make sure you have a great deal of versatility outside combat, you can also use that to add one of the standard party roles to your character (they get a rogues trapfinding/disabling ability), and don't forget the warlocks two social skills (sense motive and intimidate) or their knowledge skills (epsecially if there isn't a party wizard or if the party wizard doesn't take those skills).

Anyways, the character sounds fun, good luck, and try not to be discouraged by all the people who can't stand the fact that most players have fun with characters who have something useful to add to every situation and can actually survive two combat encounters without having to run back to town.

Focus on mobility and hiding invocations - they'll probably suit you well.

Max out UMD as well.

As for the rest, get Vitriolic Blast. Avoid Blast Shape invocations, except for Eldritch Chain - the others will make you lose your skirmish.

thanks for the responses... this was mearly the combat portion of what i was looking at, the combat comes quicker to me and i fill in the utility later. i do plan to chose a mix of essences and utility invocations. and i chose ability focus by accident. was ment to have quicken spell like ability eldritch blast. though i was concerned about only being able to focus on one person at a time, so i thought up a change, drop improved crit and empower SLA and get manyshot and greater manyshot. greater manyshot because you can apply precision based damage to multiple targets. thought i wouldnt be able to apply precision shot since it is a standard action, i would be able to spread the pain out with skirmish. i was thinking about virtolic blast, baleful utterance, fell flight, see unseen, which ever the invisibility one is (i dont have my complete arcane with me), miasmic cloud, swarm invoc, among other assorted invocs.

The combination of Warlock and scout is great because it synergizes on the weakness of each class, namely that they can only do what they do best (EB and Skirmish, respectively) once a round, therefore this gives you a way to increase your damage, without having to resort to silly tricks to get full attacks at the end of a charge, or relying on metaspell-like ability feats, which you can only use 3 times per day. Good choices.
