Making the Eldritch Knight into a Lyrical Knight [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-09-05, 09:47 AM Hey all, in order to utilize the EK for Bards, I was thinking about using the skeleton of the EK in the DMG but making it a bit more bard focused and then call it the Lyrical Knight.

Rqt
All martial weapons, 3rd level arcane spells, bardic music ability

BAB good
Saves, good fort, bad ref and will
HD d6
Skill Points 4+Int

1st level - bardic music continues at 1/2 rate, for every odd level in LK, effective Bard level for music goes up by 1
2-10 levels +1 spellcasting

Skills
Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Knowledge (all) (Int), Perform (Cha), Sense Motive (Wis), Spellcraft (Int), and Tumble (Dex).

What do you think? Too good, just right, needs something?

LK:
+10 BAB
9 spellcasting levels
5 levels of bardic music
40 skill points (+INT)
35 HP average (+CON)
+7 Fort/+3 Refl/+3 Will
Fighter/Bard:
+8 BAB
8 spellcasting levels
8 levels of bardic music
52 skill points (+INT) (and a larger selection of skills for most of those points)
39 HP average (+CON)
2 bonus feats (and if this brings your fighter level up to 4th, opportunity to get weapon specialization)
+8 levels to bardic knowledge
+5 Fort/+6 Refl/+6 Will

I'd take a fighter/bard over this prestige class. Actually, I'd take a ranger/bard (for extra skill points) or a barbarian bard (for special abilities) rather than a fighter/bard.

Here's a little something you can add to make it worthwhile:
- At some level, insert the ability "This character can cast bard spells while wearing medium armor"
- Add a few skills to the list.
Definitely add:
Climb, Intimidate, Jump, Swim (which are on the bard list and the fighter list)
Consider adding:
Bluff, Gather Information

Skills = Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Knowledge (all) (Int), Perform (Cha), Sense Motive (Wis), Spellcraft (Int), Tumble (Dex), Climb (Str), Intimidate (Cha), Jump (Str), Swim (Str), Bluff (Cha) and Gather Information (Cha)
