Hello

I'm trying to come up with a houserule for this. I based it on the suggestions in UA, p. 120.
Damage Tresshold = CONscore + CONmod/HD.
I'm also going to alter the negative HP rule: you can always go to -10, with later as low as CON score with a cap on it = level. So, a character with 16 CON can go to -10 hp, and at lvl 11 to -11, up to -16 at lvl 16.
Care to give some feedback on this? I haven't actually used these rules. Also, any suggestions to draft classes in to the Tresshold, are appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

There was a post a few weeks ago on this subject.

With your Threshold system, the same point comes up : it is horribly broken for monsters. Say you have a Dragon with 40HD and 40 CON then his threshold would be 80 damage out of around 6-800HP?? Reversely with low HD/CON monsters it becomes the opposite, the threshold for a cat would be 10 damage even though he has 2hp!

I think the consensus we had on that post was that the best way of calculating Threshold should be :

HP/2 or minimum 50 for Medium Creatures. And we also discussed the possibility of being clobbered per the variant rule if you lose half your hp in one hit instead of making a save against death.

About the -10 HP thing : I think it's a nice idea, I might just implement that you die at -your CON score.

HP/2 seems like a nice consensus, yes. We'll try that one out.
Thanks!

I use the higher of height/length (in feet), hit dice, or (for PCs), Constitution. If playing gritty, I take that value as it is. If playing high fantasy, I multiply it by five.

Now that I think about it, 40HD, 40 CON, wouldn't my tresshold be more along the likes of 640? Which would be high, but a Dragon with 40 CON would be tough. Besides, my group contains the necessary powerbuilders to achieve just that hit. ;)

Thanks for the height/length suggestion.
