RedMage 10-11-04, 09:16 AM	It isnt rare for the Mindflayers to keep the best specimines for themselves when taking slaves (after all, there are only so many minds someone can flay). Sometimes these perfect examples of a race play host to mindflayer offspring. Regected from most civilised socioty, creatures with Mindflayer bloodlines are marked for what they are and scorned for it badly. Minor bloodlines usualy result in offspring that are slightly taller and gaunter than normal creatures of their race with blue, aqua, or purple tinted skin and thin hair. Someone with a higher bloodline may have large, fish-like eyes, an enlarged cranium, or tenticles on either side of his mouth. Minor Bloodline: 4- +2 on Spellcraft Checks made to identify magical items or spells being cast 8- +4 to will saves vs. Spells or Psionics 12- +1 Int or +1 Cha 16- Psionic Resistance 12 20- Mindflayer Affinity +2 Intermediate Bloodline: 2- +2 on Spellcraft 4- +4 to Will saves vs. Spells or Psionics 6- +1 Int or Cha 8- Psionic Resistance 12 10- Mindflayer Affinity +2 12- Charm Person 3/day 14- Bluff +2 16- Unflayable 18- +1 Int or Cha 20- Dominate Person 1/day Unflayable (ex): gains a +4 racial bonus to saves being made vs. any speicial abilties of mindflayers or any other illithids. At lvl 18, the Intermediate Mindflayer gains whatever bonus he did not gain at lvl 6.

Was your point the objection which was brought up in that thread that an illithid bloodline doesn't make logical sense? If so, you might want to check out the illithid sorcerous bloodline presented in Dragon 325. The explanation that the writers give there seems plausible enough in the context of D&D: illithid bloodlines come from slaves that have been "enhanced" by illithid grafts and experimentation.
RedMage 10-13-04, 06:57 AM	Well, I think is point was to politely flame me for not knowing that someone else had posted an Illithid Bloodline. I'll have to check out that issue of Dragon, sadly I've gotten somewhat behind in my reading.
Kastas 10-13-04, 03:54 PM	It's a good article, but it may not be exactly what you're looking for. The bloodlines in that article are very different mechanically from the ones in UA (although they do suggest mixing the two). Basically, the bloodlines in Dragon are feats for sorcerers to take in order to represent their unique magical heritage. A sorcerer with the aforementioned illithid bloodline derives their arcane power from the experimentation that was performed on their ancestor.

I mean yes, being part mindflayer would be cool and all, but serriously can you actually see this happening. And even if you could somehow write me up a story in which this happened I'm not even sure that they have gender. I mean am I the only person on here that sees it this way.

Well, in old spell jammer Mindflayers were common and social interaction breeds trust and builds relationships. Now, It may be phyically impossible for a mindflayer to mate with a human, but with the large number of host mindflayer have used in the past. Remember thier race is thousands of years old, and have uncountable racial varients for different host species that makes thier phyical makeup highly varible. The gith were once human but were altered by the illithids, now no longer human and psionic. They could be consider in some circles as half mindflayer. and not only that but mindflayers have a caste of thier people devoted to flesh crafting. I tink a few of them would try breeding making a half mindflayer varient to live in warm, dry climates and the like so yes, I think it is possible to have a half illithis bloodline Gruffmug
