I the case of the weapon group feat variant there is no overlap of weapon proficiency thus multiclassing becomes a quick way to gain between one and four free feats. A fighter transitioning to a sorcerer or wizard should arguably learn next to nothing new in terms of weapon proficiency where as a wizard transitioning to fighter has quite the gap to fill in that area. I see two options. One, they overlap, thus a fighter gains no new proficiencies in the aforementioned transition, while the wizard gains four. The other option is to subtract one from the number gained (not to include basic) with basic weapon proficiency overlapping. In such a case a fighter transitioning to a druid would gain either druid weapons or spears, where in the first option he would gain nothing. The aforementioned wizard again gains four proficiencies. I'm curious for any input on my ideas or from anyone who has encountered this problem before. Thank you. -PK |

So a fighter has basic +4, if he multiclass, no class has more groups than that. He gains nothing. A wizard has basic +1, if he multiclasses into he gains 3, to take him upto the fighter maximum of basic +4. |
