| Sigurdur Yorsalfarne02-27-07, 07:51 PM | Wounds: constitute a PC's physical integrity and is mostly fixed to a characters CON, unless special abilities or feats improve the wounds. The only way to wound someone is to hit him/her critically or after all Vitality <to defend him/herself> is finished fending off attacks. Sneak attacks/ flat-foot/surprise also bypasses wounds. Vitality: Is a PC's "lifeblood, vigor and energy and, once used up leaves anyone unable to fend off further attacks. A Character's Hit Points constitute Vitality, with some special abilites or feats augmenting this number. Damage Reduction: a number that lowers all damage it subtracts one category. i. e. 4 points of Wound is converted to 4 points of Vitality and 4 points of Vitality is a "shrugg of". Damage reduction can be aquired by; magic, special abilites/feats or by physical/racial origin. Armor Class: As before, except that most typical armors now have a split armor class/damage reduction rating according to Unearthed Arcana. It is possible for any high-level hero in this system to be killed in one single blow for a low-level raging barbarian wielding a greataxe in a surprise round. This system is very deadly two high-level fighters facing each other, although I also allow many feats and complex ways of using hero points in my campaign, so most of the time it doesn't happen. I have seen PC's LOVE the fights, but being scared like heck to fight the high-lvl villain. Good armor rating is very precious here. <look for that Adamantite Breastplate on that Half-Ogre barbarian dragon Disciple with a DR of 10!!> |

| Sigurdur Yorsalfarne02-28-07, 08:29 PM | I'm still a little fuzzy as to how this works, could you post an example and so the house rule in a step-by-step format? Round One: Draconius SURPRISES and charges Anthrocion caught unaware and rolls a 7 <a regular hit after adding attack+>. Draconius uses a Greatsword and gets a total of 17 hits with all damage modifiers. 5 of these hits are converted into lost vitality by subtracting Anthracion's Damage reduction. 12 remaining hits are direct wounds and Anthrocion can barely survive another glance with only 4 wounds left!! Anthrocion pulls away fleeing, giving Draconius an attack of opportunity-hitting for another 8 points of damage, after converting 5 damage towards lost vitality, Anthrocion escapes with a misery ONE wound points left and not to many Vitality either <lost 10>. Round Two: Draconius pulls a bow and fires two arrows, rolling a 12 and a 19. The first is 7 points of damage giving only 2 points loss of Vitality and the remaining 5 as non-lethal damage. The second is a critical hit going directly to Wounds. Furtunately, Anthracion only suffers 4 points of wounds, all converted to lost Vitality. Anthrocion now has lost 24 points of Vitality <5 of them temporary> and 15 Wounds and is barely able to sustain enough Wisdom to activate the Teleport on his Ring of Spell Storing, while blessing Tymora for his luck.. |
