| Callista02-24-05, 04:16 PM | Okay, here's the deal: All of our characters rolled for bloodlines at the beginning of this campaign; and we've played from 3rd to 9th level. I got a Major Gold Dragon Bloodline. Thing is, I don't own Unearthed Arcana for myself, so I just added the benefits of the bloodline from the table whenever I leveled up; we just passed it around the room (among 8 people) whenever we leveled, so I never had a chance to read the Bloodline section... and that's the root of the problem. Only recently did I realize (through talk on these boards) that I am supposed to take "bloodline levels" or some such... and so, either I shouldn't be as high a character level as I am, or I shouldn't have the benefits of the bloodline. I'm not good at power-gaming usually, but my character is the second most powerful, damage-wise, in the party, a Rogue 8/ Paladin 1 focusing on UMD and Tumble. Now I'm really not surprised she is so powerful... because I have abilities I shouldn't have. I need to take those Bloodline powers off my character... I don't like overshadowing the rest of the party, which I'll continue to do if I keep those extra bits (especially Fire resistance 10). And, on top of that... I don't want to look like a cheater if my DM sees my sheet. Soo... could someone post the benefits a Major gold dragon bloodline brings, and at which level(s) you have to take one of these "bloodline levels"? (Can I have the first one or two powers without taking such a level?), prefarably before next Saturday's session? Or maybe private-message them to me, since it's not in the SRDs?... 'Cause if I don't take them off before next time we play, I'll look like a cheater... Thanks. |

It happens...especially if this is the first time anything like this has happened, I highly doubt you'll be accused of cheating...but just in case, I can PM you later and give you the details of what you're supposed to have. | cambric02-25-05, 09:49 AM | Callista...I got your PM, but your box is currently filled up! I'll try again tonight after I get home...so if you could empty out at least one message, that would help. Cam |
| netvapor02-25-05, 09:39 PM | Not hardly, innocent mistakes are not cheating. Take the DM aside and tell him/her what happened and sort it out. For any good DM this is not a big deal. Not to say that all you gaming buddies might not give you loads of grief to a long time to come should they find out. But fix it and go on. Just show your revised character to the DM. BTW when your not using abilities that you had before you redid your character people will notice. Gamers usually catch stuff like that. So best bet is just be honest. |
| scwolf02-25-05, 10:28 PM | For any good DM this is not a big deal. Especially if it was the DM's idea to have everyone in the party roll for a bloodline in the first place. (I don't know if it was or not, because the original post doesn't specify; however it seems likely -- "Let's have everyone in the party use this optional rule, even though not everyone has the book" is most likely a DM call.) |
| Morwen02-25-05, 10:45 PM | By 9th level you're supposed to have taken 2 bloodline levels. Incidentally, you're supposed to take the 3rd bloodline level by or at 12th level, so the easy fix would be to simply take bloodline levels the next 3 times you gain a level. DM-approving, of course :) |
| Tony11103-01-05, 09:35 PM | Is it just be or are bloodlines underpowered? Tony |

Mistakes happen. As the DM, I recently decided to take in everyone's character sheets and do an audit on our level 12 characters- I don't think I had looked them over since 1st level and just trusted the players, doing minor checks now and then to keep them honest. Everyone in the party had mistakes- from wrong saving throw bonuses to wrong damage to too many skill points and more. Even the most careful players who checked their sheets over before giving them to me had mistakes. you just fix them and move on. For you, I would try and remove levels that wouldn't affect you that much- abilities you haven't used, etc. For instance, losing a level of rogue right now hardly hurts- a bunh of skill go down by a point, your sneak attack stays the same, and a few other minor adjustments. If you can't do this without too much disruption, then just don't add any new abilities as you climb up the next level or two until you're caught up properly. BUT, you should likely receive XP at a lesser rate (i.e. as a character 2 levels higher) since you are a higher ECL. |
| LordofIllusions03-22-05, 06:04 PM | Callista, prepare yourself for the horrible death your DM will bring upon you once he/she finds out you cheated your way to a great character. Just kidding. Alter the mnistake. ~~~ |
| EarthForce04-01-05, 03:51 PM | Yeah, don't worry about people being mad either. You doing something that will somewhat weaken your character stat-wise. Many times it's just the opposite with people. So could probably just bring it up anytime before a session as players will likely understand. |
