| Jeremy75709-10-06, 06:53 PM | So tell me what you think is it balanced enough or too powerful, or maybe even too weak (though I doubt that). Ascetic Adept You have incorporated the techniques of the sublime way into your monastic training. Prerequisites: Improved Unarmed Strike, Discipline Focus ability. Benefit: Your swordsage and monk levels stack for the purpose of determining your unarmed strike damage. For example, a human 3rd-level swordsage/3rd-level monk would deal 1d8 points of damage with her unarmed strike as if he were a monk of 6th level. Your swordsage and monk levels also stack for the purpose of determining your initiator level and learning maneuvers. This does not effect the number of maneuvers you may ready or the number of stances you know. For example, a human 3rd-level swordsage/ 3rd-level monk would have an initiator level of 6, would know 11 maneuvers, and could swap out a maneuver he already knows for one of a higher level. This same character would only be able to ready 5 maneuvers and know 2 stances, instead of 6 and 3 like a swordsage of 6th level. In addition, you can multi-class freely between the swordsage and monk class. You must still remain lawful in order to retain your monk abilities and take monk levels. You still face the normal xp penalties for having multiple classes more than one level apart. |
| babysamurai09-11-06, 06:09 AM | Right on – I the love ascetic feats. Check these out (some of them are not finished): ASCETIC SOUL Prerequisites: Improved Unarmed Strike, ability to shape soulmelds. Benefit: Your incarnate and monk levels stack to determine your unarmed damage. You may multi-class between incarnate and monk freely (alignment and XP penalties still apply as normal). You gain 1 point of Essentia. ASCETIC MIND Prerequisites: Improved Unarmed Strike, ability to manifest 2nd level powers. Benefit: Your monk and psion levels stack to determine your unarmed damage. You may multi-class between monk and psion freely (alignment and XP penalties still apply as normal). You may expend your psionic focus to add +2 to the DC for Stunning Fist. ASCETIC SKIRMISHER Prerequisites: Improved Unarmed Strike, skirmish class ability. Benefit: Your monk and scout levels stack to determine your unarmed damage. You may multi-class between monk and scout freely (alignment and XP penalties still apply as normal). ASCETIC INVOKER Prerequisites: Improved Unarmed Strike, eldritch blast class ability. Benefit: Your monk and warlock levels stack to determine your unarmed damage. You may multi-class between monk and warlock freely (alignment and XP penalties still apply as normal). ASCETIC WARRIOR Prerequisites: Improved Unarmed Strike, Weapon Focus (unarmed strike), Weapon Specialization (unarmed strike). Benefit: Your fighter and monk levels stack to determine your unarmed damage. You may multi-class between fighter and monk freely (alignment and XP penalties still apply as normal). ASCETIC BEAST Prerequisites: Improved Unarmed Strike, wildshape class ability Benefit: Your druid and monk levels stack to determine your unarmed damage. You may multi-class between druid and monk freely (alignment and XP penalties still apply as normal). Your druid and monk levels stack to determine the maximum hit die of forms you assume when wildshaped. ASCETIC STALKER You have gone beyond the bounds of your monastic training, training your mind and body to act as one. Prerequisite: Improved Unarmed Strike, ki power class feature. Benefit: Your ninja and monk levels stack for the purpose of determining your AC bonus. However, you only following the AC bonus progression of the monk, and not that of the ninja. Your ninja and monk levels stack in determining the size of your ki pool. You may multiclass freely between monk and ninja, but must remain lawful to continue gaining levels as a monk. XP penalties still apply normally. ASCETIC CRAFTER Prerequisites: Improved Unarmed Strike, ability to cast 2nd level infusions. Benefit: Your artificer and monk levels stack to determine your AC. You may multi-class between artificer and monk freely (alignment and XP penalties still apply as normal). |
| Jeremy75709-11-06, 09:02 AM | I see that many of your feats only offer one ability in addition to the multiclassing, why is that. The ones in CV all feature two abilities. |
| madmonk09-11-06, 09:12 AM | What Jeremy said. |
| babysamurai09-11-06, 09:17 AM | I see that many of your feats only offer one ability in addition to the multiclassing, why is that. The ones in CV all feature two abilities. They are not done yet – help me out if you want. |
| madmonk09-11-06, 12:53 PM | For the ascetic skirmisher, giving a +2 to the stun DC whenever you receive bonus to your skirmish damage, or counting monk levels as scout levels for skirmish. For the ascetic warrior, monk and fighter levels stack for chosing fighter-only feats, as long as you chose unarmed strike as your favored weapon. |

For the ascetic warrior, monk and fighter levels stack for chosing fighter-only feats, as long as you chose unarmed strike as your favored weapon. thats a good idea. Though his prerequisite is too high. All the se type of feats in CV are designed to be taken by level 3. The way you have yours written babysamurai you wouldn't be able to take it till after 4th level. So I would write it like this: ASCETIC WARRIOR Prerequisites: Improved Unarmed Strike, one bonus fighter feat. Benefit: Your fighter and monk levels stack to determine your unarmed damage. Your monk and fighter levels also stack for the purpose of meeting the prerequisites for bonus fighter feats. You may multi-class between fighter and monk freely (alignment and XP penalties still apply as normal). |
| babysamurai09-12-06, 05:33 AM | Thanks for the input dudes. I like the Skirmisher idea, but maybe something to do with their speed stacking would be cool as well. I'm at work - I'll get back to ya later. |

| GnomeBarbarian09-13-06, 09:12 PM | Ascetic Priest Prerequisites: Ability to turn undead, Improved Unarmed Strike Benefit: Your cleric and monk levels stack to determine your unarmed damage. Your monk and cleric levels also stack for the purpose of turning/reubking undead.. You may multi-class between cleric and monk freely (alignment and XP penalties still apply as normal). This one me and my DM worked out because i was working on becoming a sacred fist and we though of all the classes to work well together like this a cleric and a monk would make the most sense. |

| kelvinaw27309-16-06, 06:40 PM | I love all of these, they make monk multi-classing viable and sensible! However, if you read carefully Ascetic Rogue allows Monk to combine with Rogue, Scout, Spellthief and Ninja ... so Ascetic Skirmisher and Ascetic Stalker are unnecessary. |

Im a big ToB fan and love monks, but this just seems alittle to good, dont know what else you would use in its place, but just seems very strong if you know how important IL acually is. |
| Mandarbgrim09-18-06, 02:11 PM | Yeah, but the Monk levels already provide 1/2 initiator levels..so... It isn't too overpowered. I could see putting a cap on it or something, though. Taking a lvl of Swordsage only occasionally, and starting out at mid lvls could have the Swordsage esculating rapidly to high lvl manuevers if he stayed within one discipline. That with only a minimal loss of lvls to the swordsage class. |

See this is what I was worried about Yeah, but the Monk levels already provide 1/2 initiator levels..so... It isn't too overpowered. I could see putting a cap on it or something, though. But this was my justification. |
| Mandarbgrim09-19-06, 09:47 AM | It gets kind of complicated to write out, but what about a cap of each 1 or 2 monk lvls only gets full IL if it has a corresponding lvl in Swordsage to match with. Therefore... Monk15/Swordsage5 doesn't get full IL but Monk10/Swordsage10 does get full IL. |
