| Patrick Draken-Korin08-06-07, 02:02 PM | I dislike current TWF rules, and have houseruled my own TWF (now multiweapon fighting) tree. As apparently has Sylvaroth (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=897787). I've been working on it for a while, and decided (when I saw his thread) to offer mine up for dissection (I'd say discussion, except that I expect the prior). Multiweapon Fighting [General, Fighter] You are capable of fighting with more than a single weapon with a moderate dose of skill. Prerequisites: Dex 15. Benefit: When you wield multiple weapons, whether off-hand weapons or additional weapons, the penalties you suffer are reduced by 2. You also gain the Ambidexterity skill trick for free; you no longer suffer the -4 penalty associated with wielding a weapon in an off-hand (any hand may act as your primary hand and off-hand weapon attacks are made with the same penalty as primary-hand weapon attacks). This feat also increases the number of skill tricks you may learn by 1. Normal: A creature without the Multiweapon Fighting feat suffers a -2 penalty whenever attacking with multiple weapons, for lack of the feat. A creature without the Ambidexterity skill trick suffers a -4 penalty when wielding a weapon in their off-hand. Special: If you have the Ambidexterity skill trick when you acquire this feat, you may gain a new skill trick for free. Two Weapon Fighting becomes Multiweapon fighting, to remove the silliness of having two feats; one for creatures with two arms , and one for those with more. Also, Ambidexterity returns, now as a skill trick, which Multiweapon fighting grants for free. Additional weapons are not new; blade boot, spiked armor, mouth darts? These are additional weapons. Additional weapons are not off-hand weapons, because they aren't used in your off-hand. Additional weapons apply a -2 penalty per weapon, and this isn't removed by any feat (well, maybe Epic, but that's different). Improved Multiweapon Fighting [General, Fighter] You have developed a quickness when fighting with multiple weapons. Prerequisites: Dex 17, Multiweapon Fighting, BAB +6. Benefit: You may make iterative attacks with off-hand weapons when fighting with multiple weapons. You also may count all off-hand weapons as a single unit, setting the penalty for off-hand attacks at -2, no matter how many hands you have. Normal: Without the Improved Multiweapon Fighting feat, you cannot make iterative attacks with off-hand weapons. You takes a -2 penalty per off-hand weapon or additional weapon wielded. The first benefit refers to gaining all iterative attacks (16/11/6); normal multiweapon fighting only allows a single attack with each off hand. The second benefit is explained by the second sentence of the normal section; three off hand attacks? A -6 penalty (-2 with Improved Multiweapon Fighting). Advanced Multiweapon Fighting [General, Fighter] Your skill for fighting with multiple weapons has improved to an astonishing degree. Prerequisites: Dex 19, Improved Multiweapon Fighting, Multiweapon Fighting, BAB +11. Benefit: When you wield multiple weapons, whether off-hand weapons or additional weapons, the penalties you suffer are reduced by an additional 2. You may also make iterative attacks with additional weapons when fighting with multiple weapons. Normal: Without the Advanced Multiweapon Fighting feat, you suffer the normal penalties whenever attacking with multiple weapons. You cannot make iterative attacks with additional weapons. So, like Sylvaroth, my system offers TWF at no penalty at three feats, with light weapons in your off hand(s). However, half the reason I rewrote the system was to account for additional weapons, which I've never liked being classified as off-hand. Now a THF that takes spiked armor can't use the armor as a off-hand weapon, it's an additional weapon, and the penalties are slightly different. One other thing is that I don't allow flurry and TWF to work with each other. Why? Because with a flurry it's many attacks with your whole body; fists, feet, forehead, knee, elbow, wang, etc. A weapon in hand can be substituted for a unarmed fist attack, and I'll also allow an additional weapon to be substituted for another limb (spiked helmet for head or blade boot for feet), but the whole flurry of blows thing is separate attacks. Meaning? No iterative attacks or extra attacks beyond the flurry of blows chain. ------- Houserules! Houserules for everyone! If you don't like mine, make your own! Just share them! |
