| Boraxe01-11-07, 01:48 PM | This past weekend our party of interpid idiots, I mean heroes, pryed open a sealed door and found ourselves facing a dozen zombies. My PC is a street brawler specilized in unarmed combat, but he normally opens up a fight with a blast from his blunderbuss to "Soften 'em up a bit." This time, he realized, his old peppergun wasn't going to do a helluva lot to a bunch of zombies, so the DM rules that I could close nad mkae a melee attack to jam the gun into the zombie's head for a full-damage shot cos, as well all know, the shotgun is the zombie's only natural enemy. Surprisingly, it worked and I sent 6d6 damage through the zombie's empty brainpan. This go us thinking about making this a house-rule variant for using a blunderbuss. The DM is willing to let the damage stand at 6d6 but I think it is ludicrously high. My thinking was that it would be a -4 modifier to hit (no one is proficient in it) with no critical threat or damage multiplier. The problem is we can't settle on a damage number. Since it has no critical threat and is always a -4 to hit I was thinking that a relatively generous damage range is possible, perhaps as much as 3d6. To offset this we were also considering limiting this tactic to once per combat, though it is already mitigated by the fact it can only be used once per round (or is it once evry other round?) cos of reload time. We would probably keep the 6d6 damage vs zombies. ;) Any thoughts or suggestions? |

Zombies do not deserve your pitty or mercy, let them have the 6d6 / round!! As for non-zombie combat, I'd say it still provokes AoOs like a normal ranged weapon in close quarters (zombies don't get the AoO because 1) the shotgun is canny and knows their ways and 2) they are zombies) Also, this would get a better response in the Equipment and COmbat section. |
