Necromancer variant : just wondering [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-15-04, 05:03 AM I'm creating a Necromancer NPC and I gave him the skeleton minion and enhanced undead capacities.

I'm wondering if the enhanced undead will apply to the skeleton minion... this necromancer NPC being Lvl 11 it would give him a HD11 skeleton with +2 HP per HD, +5 AC, +7 Str and Dex (+3 from skeleton minion and +4 fomr enhanced undead).

That's a nice skeleton but I'm not sure the two powers stake. As the minion is summoned I'd say thay do. What do you think ?

04-17-04, 04:26 AM I see no problem with this. The minion is supposedly a skeleton already raised by the necromancer (although how this is done when Animate Dead is not yet known is not revealed). If the necromancer just somehow attracted into his service a wandering mindless / uncontrolled skeleton then I might argue the idea, but offhand I see no problem with this. The skeleton is supposed to help guard the necromancer and lets face it - wizards need all the protection they can get.

04-17-04, 10:00 AM One could argue that since the Necromancer has but one Skeletal Minion it is a less powerful ability than Animate dead is.

And my G.M., who is generally against every possible way to increase a characters power without actual Level advancement said it would be perfectly fine to have a Skeletal minion under the effects of the Enhanced Undead ability. So it would seem that even the stingiest are ok with it.

04-17-04, 12:00 PM My question is this: if a wizards with Enhanced Undead becomes a Lich, does he get the +4 enhancement bonus to strength and dex? If you do it in an unhallowed area you end up with 10.5 HP/HD as a wizard. Kinda scary.

He technically created the undead (himself) after all.

04-18-04, 03:02 PM Hmm, I never thought of that! I don't think that's what the developers had in mind, and IIRC the special actually mentions that it enhances the undead you create via animate dead and similar spells. If that is the case, then NO you would not gain that bonus. On the other hand, I see no problem with creating a BBEG NPC who - via the favor of his undead sponsering deity and due to having completed the ritual of lichdom in a region sacred to his deity - received those benefits.
