| The_Mighty_Mintzy08-05-04, 03:31 AM | Greetings, I need some help developing a spell touched feat for my character, he is a Half-Orc Ftr2/Bbn2 and he has been the main (Non magical) offense for my group, namely because of the Enlarge spells that are casted on him during battle. Now what I was thinking was to create a spell touched feat that treated him as large size (because I was stupid and I forgot about Jotunbrud, and lets just nevermind that its only available to Damaran or Illuskan humans in RoF) sort of like the Powerful Build ability that Half-Giants have. Please, do not tell me how I cannot do this, inform me as to how I can do this and retain game balance. Thanks in advance. P.S.: Thorak, I could really use your help with this, you really know your stuff. |
| The_Mighty_Mintzy08-06-04, 12:54 AM | Oh well, I guess the people who take the time to critique everyone else's work can't help me in this instance. (Sadly bows head): Thanks anyways. |
| Oakraven08-06-04, 01:39 AM | I think the problem is here inform me as to how I can do this and retain game balance. Bascialy the only way to maintain game balance with a Feat that may be broken from a Game mechanics PoV (as this sounds off the cuff) is to either make it Equaly avalible to the oponetns, or make a counter avalible to oponents, or to ramp up to higher CR NPCs/Monters (and hope that a unlucky roll dosent wipe out the party) or to move this to a late Epic level feat (where one more broken item will not be noticed) If you cant balance this short of having someone show up with Epic level feats, then perhaps this should be alowed only AS an epic level feat. Trust me its not fun having a group consisting of a group who are all baseline power and have oneperson who might as well walk around with red and blue and gold tights with a Big S on their chest. |
| DM Zoc08-06-04, 02:02 AM | It shouldn't be hard to make it workable. If we've already established that you always have the spell cast upon you, then just have the feat allow you to make yourself larger, once per day, as a spell-like ability (for a number of rounds equal to your Cha modifier). It takes some sort of action to activate this, and it cannot be combined with a spell effect to make you even larger. |
| The_Mighty_Mintzy08-06-04, 02:47 AM | Thanks, guys (or girls?) Oakraven: I'm not saying I'm like Superman or anything, it's just that I'm the heavy hitter of the group which consists of: a human Clr4 of Pelor, an elven Brd4, a human Wiz4, a halfling Rng2/Rog2 and a gnome Rog4. Needless to say....I'm the muscle of the group, because our only other "melee" fighter chose the ranged combat style for his ranger, and besides, I just wanted to know how to go about this feat (without going to Epic levels because we only got to level 4) since you can take stuff like Conductivity and Armor Skin or whatever its called, I dont have the book handy. Thanks for your input. DM Zoc: That is a really cool option, but I'm looking for something a little bit more (partly because my Cha modifier is in the negatives, and only once per day isn't really enough). Do you think it would be balanced if I included say all the drawbacks of being Large size into this (Powerful Build-esque) feat but still remain my original size (Medium)? Comments. Thanks in advance. P.S.: Oakraven, I only included the "and retain game balance" into my post because I don't want this thread to go on about 'this isn't balanced', 'way to Munchy for me' or whatever. Just to clarify, I would really like as many people to help me with this as possible, thats why I posted in the first place. Thanks for replying to my humble request. |
| Lina_Inverse08-06-04, 01:13 PM | it shouldnt be too bad,so long as its just the half giant ability.IE no reach/str bonus. |
| The_Mighty_Mintzy08-06-04, 05:20 PM | Thanks, Lina. Anyone else have an opinion about this? I could really use more help defining this feat,......anyone? |
| ardalor08-08-04, 03:48 PM | I agree with Lina. The half-giant's Powerful Build ability is roughly equivalent to many of the Spelltouched feats already listed. Just keep it as written, and you should be fine. Alternatively, maybe let the character increase his size by one category once per day as a spell-like ability (as someone mentioned before). Have it last one minute. That way it's also similar in feel to the Alter Shape Spelltouched feat (can't remember what it was called). |
| The_Mighty_Mintzy08-11-04, 02:36 AM | Thanks, Ardalor. Do you have any other comments? |
