| Bolorhaig09-28-04, 08:20 PM | recently we've noticed in our game that there are no mechanics for detecting or diagnosing negative levels. i don't want to start a debate thread here, but i'm presenting new uses for old skills and 2 new spells that resolve our problem. if anyone else wants to use them, you are welcome to do so. HEAL skill The following treatment options are added to those listed already under HEAL skill. Determine that a patient has negative levels (20 minutes, DC 20) Determine that a patient has negative levels equal to or more than half patient’s HD (20 minutes, DC 15) Determine save DC, within a range of 3 (10-12, 13-15, 16-18, 19-21, etc), necessary for patient to throw off existing negative levels; same check determines whether existing negative levels have a chance to become permanent level loss (20 minutes; requires healing kit, DC 25) Give patient a +2 circumstance bonus to saving throws for throwing off current negative levels (requires healing kit and constant care of patient during 8 hours rest previous to saving throw attempt, DC 25) The healer gains a +2 synergy bonus if he/she has any of the following skills. These bonuses do not stack. Knowledge: Arcana of 10+ ranks Knowledge: Necromancy of 5+ ranks Knowledge: Undead of 5+ ranks For skills other than HEAL, the following options are added. Determine that a subject has negative levels (5 minutes;) Knowledge: Arcana (DC 25) Knowledge: Necromancy (DC 12) Knowledge: Undead (15) Determine that a subject has negative levels equal to or greater than half patient’s HD (5 minutes) Knowledge: Arcana (DC 23) Knowledge: Necromancy (DC 10) Knowledge: Undead (DC 13) Determine saving throw DC, within a range of 3 (10-12, 13-15, 16-18, 19-21, etc) necessary for subject to throw off current negative levels; same check determines whether existing negative levels have a chance to become permanent level loss (5 minutes; 5+ ranks in HEAL required to make this check) Knowledge: Arcana (DC 25) Knowledge: Necromancy (DC 15) Knowledge: Undead (DC 20) NEW SPELLS Detect Negative Levels Divination Level Clc 0, Drd 1, Pal 0, Sor/Wiz 0 Components V, S Casting Time 1 minute Range close (25 ft + 5 ft/2 caster levels) Target/Area one creature Duration instantaneous Saving Throw none (harmless) SR no You determine whether a creature has temporary negative levels. You can determine a range for the number of negative levels (ie 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, etc) with any one of the following checks: WIS (DC 20), Heal (DC 20), Knowledge: Arcana (DC 20), Knowledge: Necromancy (DC 15), Knowledge: Undead (DC 15). Caster and target must remain relatively still during casting. Thus taking any action during casting time that includes movement over half speed, attacks, other spellcasting, or defending yourself from attacks such that you receive your DEX modifier to AC, ruins the spell. Analyze Negative Levels Divination Level Clc 2, Drd 3, Pal 2, Sor/Wiz 2 Components V, S Casting Time 1 minute Range close (25 ft + 5 ft/2 caster levels Target/Area one creature Duration instantaneous Saving Throw none (harmless) SR no For the targeted creature, you can determine all of the following at the completion of the spell. 1- the exact number of negative levels currently inflicting the subject. 2- whether the negative levels have a potential permanent effect 3- the saving throw DC necessary for throwing off the negative levels 4- whether the target has permanent level loss as a result of negative levels (loss must have occurred within 1 day per caster level) During casting, this spell requires that both caster and subject remain relatively still. For the entire duration, the spell is ruined if either caster or subject take or participate in any of the following actions: movement over half speed, attacks of any kind, spellcasting of any kind, defending themselves such that they receive their Dex modifier to AC. |
