| Warric05-23-07, 03:08 PM | I'm thinking of adding this feat to my campaign: Invincible Rage While in a rage, your ability to shrug off physical damage increases. Prerequisites: Rage class ability, Endurance, BAB +7 Benefit: While in a rage, the character gains a +2 bonus to damage reduction. Thus a level 7 barbarian normally has DR 1/-, but while in a rage this would increase to DR 3/-. The bonus damage reduction ends when the rage ends. What do you think? Too good? Not good enough? Any feedback is appreciated. |
| RobbyPants05-23-07, 04:04 PM | I don't think it's rediculous. It seems potent at first glance, but realistically you have to be 9th level to take it, and you need to blow a precious feat slot on Endurance. By the time you're 9th level, you'll be getting hit hard enough by foes that +2 DR won't make you 'teh uber broknzen pwnzer'. All in all, I'd say it's a fairly balanced feat. Nice idea. :D |
| Warric05-23-07, 04:44 PM | What would you think about it if Endurance wasn't one of the prerequisites? |
| Ryusage05-23-07, 05:04 PM | What would you think about it if Endurance wasn't one of the prerequisites? Ask yourself this question: Can you think of a barbarian NOT wanting to take it? If you cannot possibly imagine a barbarian not wanting this feat, it's probably overpowered. If you cannot imagine a barbarian wanting this feat, it's probably underpowered. If you're not sure, chances are it's juuussstttt right.:) |
| tedopon05-23-07, 06:14 PM | I wouldn't take it. It uses 2 feat slots for an ability that isn't that useful considering the power level you get it at. I think that it's a good line of thinking, and I'd be interested to see where it goes, but in this form I dislike it. Like Robby said, DR2 is pretty much garbage at that high of a level. |

And yet people harp on the barbarian's DR 1-3, which he only gets at high levels. I'd look at it this way: Estimate how much damage the barbarian takes from a typical hit. What portion of that is DR 2? Most feats improve something by 2%-8%, so just set the DR to match. I'd shoot for 2%-6%, since most feats fall within that range. Or here's another way to look at it: You can increase your damage by 2 with a feat if you have the pre-reqs. This gives you DR 2/-, which is worth about the same, and requiring that you be raging is quite a pre-req. It might not be worth a feat for everyone, but it would for some. If I was a fighter who was running out of feats to choose from, I'd definately take it. |
| ff6shadow05-23-07, 08:37 PM | Maybe say the prerequisites are Endurance and Greater Rage. Can't get it till 12th level and it requires a garbage feat. I could see bosting it to +3 to damage reduction. There is a feat in Savage Species. Requires 20 Con and the Toughness feat. Grants DR 2/- and can be taken multiple times. |
| bloodtalon05-23-07, 11:07 PM | with the feat from SS you can get it in the first level now that might be way over powerful and this is how dwarven fighter roll 18 for con then add +2 due to race for 20 con fighter feat take toughness in the first level alot of creatures might only do 2 points of damage |
| ff6shadow05-24-07, 06:48 AM | True. Never said the Savage Species feat was perfectly balanced, but it provides a point of reference. DR 2/- is too much at 1-3, but its nothing at 10 and up either. Roll With It if overwhelming for when you can get it, and his feat is underwhelming at its timing. |
| Warric05-24-07, 12:08 PM | I just want to add a good new option for the barbarian class into my campaign that I don't want to make too powerful. This feat idea popped into my head one day as I was perusing through the old Ultimate Feats book. As a DM, I only play with a selected few sources: The core rulebooks, the PHB II, MIC, Complere Warrrior, and a very few bits and pieces of other books which I don't own. I am open to requests of my players, however. My main concern is not to make the feat too powerful, but yet still make it competetive. I think Endurance as a prerequisite provides a nice crossroad: Do I take Diehard next or Invincible rage? So do you think it is competetive? What about changing the prerequisites... such as toughness or improved toughness? Or simply taking the Endurance requirement out? Are there any combos of feats/abilities out there that can be exploited with this feat? |
