| Falrin12-13-06, 05:00 PM | I'm trying to fix caster by altering their spellprogression. This one's for the wizard. Changes : -Cantrips can be cast (Casting Stat)/day. (ex. A 18 int wizard gets 18 cantrips.) -Spell LvL 1-3 have become the sorcerers spells/day. This gets you more spells, but delays the highest LvL spell one LvL. - Spell LvL 4-6 are from the wizards list, but because of the previous, delayed 1 LvL. - Spell LvL 7-9 are the wizards list divided by 2, rounded down. LvL1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 1 3 2 4 3 5 4 6 3 5 6 4 6 6 5 3 7 6 6 4 8 6 6 5 1 9 6 6 6 2 10 6 6 6 2 1 11 6 6 6 3 2 12 6 6 6 3 2 1 13 6 6 6 3 3 2 14 6 6 6 4 3 2 0 15 6 6 6 4 3 3 1 16 6 6 6 4 4 3 1 0 17 6 6 6 4 4 3 1 1 18 6 6 6 4 4 4 1 1 0 19 6 6 6 4 4 4 1 1 1 20 6 6 6 4 4 4 2 1 1 Any comments on this? Currently I'm planning on doing this for all the full casters, but I wanted soem feedback first. |
| CroBob12-14-06, 04:44 AM | It seems too arbitrary. Why keep a powerful wizard from casting a powerful spell more than once daily? He's powerful, he should be able to use that power more than a few times a day. |
| X-Codes12-14-06, 05:29 AM | Also, high-level Wizards can get a lot of bonus spells from school specialization (+1, or +2 with Focused Specialist), high Intelligence (+1 with 28+, +2 with 36+), and a few other ways. Besides, to handle most encounters, Wizards don't even really need their highest-level spells. With a Rod of Empower, a DLB does 30d6 damage, or a Disintegrate 60d6. They can also knock out saving throws with Mind Fog, Bestow Curse, and Enervation to make their low-level save-or-suck spells all the more potent. In other words, this doesn't really help. |

Currently I'm planning on doing this for all the full casters, but I wanted soem feedback first. I was thinking of doing something similar, although I had it go up normally to until the caster got 5th level spells (with a few extra low level spells added), then switched to new spell level gained every three levels, so that the caster didn't get 9th level spells until 20th level. Like X-Codes pointed out, there are ways for a caster to get several bonus spells of that level. That means regular casters usually achieve their most powerful casting abilities at level 17, and in your system 18th. Personally I'd prefer it if a class reached the pinnacle of their ability at 20th, but I think it really depends on what you need for your campaign. I'd be interested in knowing what your players think, and how it playtests out. |
