| Kaerts03-15-04, 01:45 AM | I apologize if this has been gone over before, but I didn't see a thread on it. At any rate, my wizard made a shiny new plus 5 intelligence item to help get spell points only to later find out that intelligence items under the spell point system do not grant extra spell points and only affect spells known a day and Save DCs. Is there any reason why to this? Any ideas? Doesn't seem to make sense to me at all to be honest, and makes intelligence items a *lot* less useful to wizards. Just looking for thoughts/suggestions. Thanks! |

| Fiendish Banana Golem03-15-04, 03:10 PM | A fellow player in my game thought it might be a mistake for the following reason; Fox's Cunning, Owl's Wisdom, and Eagle's Splendor specifically state they do not grant bonus spells. The items that are based off of those spells do not state whether they do or do not grant bonus spells, but the spells they are based upon state they do not, therefore, they would not-if not for the FAQ, which states that they do infact grant bonus spells. Perhaps the people who were writing that part of UA were unaware of the ruling that Int/Wis/Cha-boosting items grant bonus spells under core 3.5, and therefore kept the assumption of "stat items will not allow casting of additional spells". Amusingly enough, Sorcerers get even more hosed by this-an Int item for a Wizard will not allow said Wizard to cast more spells, but will add "spells known per day" that they can put in their spell template...while a Sorcerer's spells known per day are fixed. |
