Now that both the Expanded Psionics and Unearthed Arcana are out, lets talk about the Generic Psionic and what that would be.

Isn't that plain missing the point of Generic classes?

...the new psionics handbook is a heck of a lot different from Magic. I mean, it's still magic, but there's a base list of "powers known" - anywhere from 2 to 36, and a secondary list telling the highest level you can know. It also ahsa heck of a lot of "augmentable" effects, that do different things (or more of 'em) depending on the points you spend, built into the powers.

A generic psion would look a bit different than a generic spellcaster....

To do it, simply take out the spells know/spells per day with the progression of the psion. Psion's pretty generic as it stands.

Edit: 42 to 36. Where did 42 come from?

But what would you call the generic psionics user? Powermanifester? Boy, that's a mouth-full. I like the idea, don't get me wrong, but I think that we need to name the class first, to get that out of the way.

Easy. Call the class "psionicist," give it the same bonus feat progression as the spellcaster, and the same power progression as the psion -- except, no primary discipline. Let the class access the psion list and all the discipline list, the same way the spellcaster can cast any wizard, cleric, or druid spell. One good save, skills like a spellcaster, probably the poor BAB and d4 hit die.

Okay then. Sounds good. So, whose gonna put together the table for this new generic class?

I can't believe I forgot all about the terms "psychic" and "psionist".

What is this, "Pick on Wickerbull Day"? :D I use the term "psionic" all the time!

At least I have a national holiday. Anyway, who wants to do that class table and post it? Or do we need one?

I think you missed the meat of the issue: How many PP per level and how many powers known per level.

What's wrong with going with the psion progression for PP and powers known?-Ryan
