Hello everyone! I've been working on a low magic D&D campaign world and I wanted the campaign to be a bit more lethal. There are quite a few rules changes that I'd like to implement, but I haven't had the time (Or willing guinea pigs) to playtest these changes - so I come to you all seeking guidance and suggestions :D

First off:
I'd like to use the Defense Bonus (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/adventuring/defenseBonus.htm) variant in tandem with the Armor As Damage Reduction (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/adventuring/armorAsDamageReduction.htm) variant.

The rub is that the Defense bonus to AC does not stack with the Armor bonus to AC. When cross referencing d20 Modern, I find that they do stack - but thats probably because magical AC boosting items are rather rare.

So, my question is would I be setting myself up for failure by allowing these two systems to stack? Should I reign in the Defense bonus to AC? Also, how much impact does DR 3/- really have in the later levels? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Secondly:
I am also thinking about implementing the Vitality And Wound Points (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/adventuring/vitalityAndWoundPoints.htm) variant with a few changes.

I was thinking of something like:

When reduced to 0 wound points a character is considered dying. Each round on his turn, a dying character must make a Fortitude save (DC 10, +1 per turn after the first) to avoid passing away. If the character suceeds the save, there is a 10% chance that he will stabilize. If the character does not stabilize he is still dying and must continue to make Fortitude saves every round.

The standard heal check or magical healing will also stabilize a character.

So, what do you all think? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! :D

It all seems fine to me. If you are combining the defense bonus and AC as DR, you could likely reduce the amount of defense bonus you are getting so that you could combine them. Divide it by 2 is likely appropriate.

If you are using Defense bonus as written, keep in mind that it makes it harder for spellcasters to land their rays and other touch/ranged touch spells.
