But, most importantly, we have divorced movement from actions. Each round, each player rolls dice according to the following chart of his total initiative modifier: -1 - 3 = D6 4 - 8 = D8 5 - 9 = D10 10-14 = D12 One die is rolled for each action he will take that round. Standard and full-rounds would be worth 1 die, full round attacks would equal as many attacks as allowed. Highest goes first. All ties are simultaneous. Movement is based on "beats" per round. The amount of beats per round is measure by the highest init roll that round. Yes, the round is flexible in length, sometimes shorter, sometimes longer. A PC may perform his action(s) on the beat(s) he rolled, or anytime thereafter in that round. Each PC may take one 5' step (or change facing without moving) per beat in a ratio of their movement rate compared to 30' (i.e. move 30' = one step per beat; 40' = one step per beat with an extra 5' on the third beat; 20' = one step per beat, but with a "pause" beat following the second'; a 30' charging character would take two steps per beat because he's moving at double speed, etc). Thus, everyone is moving acting, and fighting simultaneously. At first glance it may seem confusing but in practice it is not. We have hit very few snags. We are really enjoying it because it converts from RAW very easily, is highly dynamic, and is more the type of play we used to enjoy with 1e and 2e. |
