| Lord Schpungus03-03-04, 08:15 PM | Here's my ideas for a Paragon class for Thri-kreen. What do you guys think? Hit Die: d8 Skills: Balance, Climb, Craft (any), Hide, Jump, Knowledge (nature), Listen, Move Silently, Spot, Survival, Tumble Skill Points: 4+Int Level BAB Fort Ref Will Special Manifestation 1 +1 +0 +2 +2 Mantid Leap, Desert Stealth -- 2 +2 +0 +3 +3 Bonus Feat, Poison 3/day +1 level of psion/psionic warrior 3 +3 +1 +3 +3 Ability Boost (Dex +2) +1 level of psion/psionic warrior Mantid Leap: The thri-kreen’s competence bonus to Jump checks increases to +40. Desert Stealth: The Thri-kreen’s racial bonus on Hide checks increases to +8. Manifestation: At 2nd and 3rd level the thri-kreen adds a level to his psionic caster level. Bonus Feat: The thri-kreen gains a bonus feat from the following list: Lightning Reflexes, Multiattack, Imp. Multiattack, Virulent Poison, Deadly Poison, Poison Resistance, Poison Immunity, WF: Gythka/Chatkcha, MWF, IMWF, GMWF, Desert Dweller, Improved Natural Attack, Combat Reflexes, Snatch Arrows, Track. The thri-kreen must still qualify for the feat. Poison: The thri-kreen can now use its poison three times per day. In addition, paragon levels count as racial Hit Die for determining the poison DC. EDIT: added +1 level of psionics, +5 to Jump, poison 3/day, and more skills. I have to admit I don't know a ton about psionics or 2e. |
| (Psi)SeveredHead03-03-04, 11:27 PM | You should ditch Climb... I know they made it a thri-kreen class skill, but thri-kreen have weak arms compared to their 450+ pound body mass (in 2e they couldn't climb). Don't forget to give them Knowledge (nature) and Craft (weaponsmithing... better yet any). Kreen have to make their own chatkcha (no one else can, on account of not being able to produce kreen saliva) and they spend long nights repairing their own weapons (flavor text). |
| Ertai Planeswalker03-04-04, 12:09 AM | i would increase the bonus to jump checks by 10/paragon HD, let both 2nd and 3rd level give an additional psion casterlevel, ditch the bonus feat, make poison 3/day, and on 3rd level increase their metapsionic cap by 1. Also, i would up the skill points to 4.lvl and add some skills. As a +1 La race, the paragon race should also be mroe powerfull than that of a standard paragon. lvl 1: +10 Jump lvl 2: +20 Jump, Poison 3/day, +1 Manifester level lvl 3: +30 Jump, +1 Metapsionic cap, +1 Manifester level |
| Lord Schpungus03-04-04, 01:08 AM | Hmm. I had felt it was too powerful already. I was comparing it to the Half-Dragon and Drow paragons, and it seemed quite powerful. I don't know about ditching climb or adding a net +25 to a skill.. |
| bolobaby03-04-04, 07:41 PM | Too powerful, imo. Knock that feat selection down to Multi-weapon Fighting. That's it, no other choices. Thri-kreen aren't about versatility like half elves and humans, so their paragon should focus on what they do best. And, with everything else you are getting, I'd think that you should drop the poison 3/day or the second +1 level psion. But heck... their favorite class is ranger, so why they are getting +1 psion levels... probably because of Dark Sun - which is fine, I guess. |
| bolobaby03-04-04, 07:47 PM | Crap - I didn't even notice that you gave it a good BAB AND two good saves. That's way overboard. Way, way, way overboard. You can't do that AND give them ANY psion progression, imo. You need to totally retool this thing. It looks like a wish-list from a player that just wants a super powerful character. |
| Lord Schpungus03-04-04, 11:20 PM | Could I lose the good will and a level of psion and be balanced? I like the bonus feat idea, is it too varied? EDIT: I was just following the racial HD for hit dice, BAB and saves, but I guess that paragon classes don't usually do that. If I go off the favored class, though, then it's the same except I give good fort instead of good will.. |
