Ok...other than the Dread Pirate, rogue, fighter, ranger, swashbuckler...does anyone know of any other classes and prestige classes that might be good for pirates....maybe even a "pirate" standard/prestige class?

Druids make pretty good pirates with their weather spells and they can select an aquatic animal companion.

Bards make pretty good pirates, especially with their ability to inspire the competence of the crew

Sorcerers make pretty good substitutes for canons.

I'm sure that Stormwrack (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/178670000) will have plenty of Pirate goodness in it.

Ok an edit....I mean for low magic campaigns....and I'm looking more for prestige classes...but regular classes as well...thanks for the help though...Oh another thing does anyone have any ideas for low magic variants for the spell casting classes....I'm already working on a bard variant on another post...see Non-Spell Casting Bard post

Presenting Jaerom's wonderful Martial Artist/Swashbuckler class, a class that is extremely customizeable and works for nearly anything that is a skilled low-magic combatant that doesn't use armor. You can find it below in my sig. :)

Wizards and Clerics that have mastered the elements of wind and sea. Pyro-based spellcasters (not just sorcerers) are good substitute for cannons.

There are plenty of decent third party products, if you're willing to go that route, with pirate or pirate-esque PrCs in them.

Skull & Bones by Green Ronin is a popular one. But there's a metric ton of them out there.

And you can get many of them fairly cheap in PDF format from either RPGNow or DriveThruRPG - depending on the PDF.
