| DolArrah03-11-05, 04:57 PM | I am making a Gestalt pc, a bard/something, and, since the search is down, do any of you suggest a class for me? I want to be a spellcaster, not a different guy. Maybe a rogue in a pinch. Thanks in advance, |

Again, you're using your high charisma, probably high dex too. You're getting full BAB, some nice abilities, etc. Warlock would be pretty cool as well. They have some nice abilities, and their limitless castings per day can make up for the bard's smaller amount. |

| Erudite04-10-05, 10:17 PM | A Magelord (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20050202a&page=2) is a fairly mediocre prestige class on it's own, in that it synergizes poorly due to the really awkward requirements. However, when gestalted with rogue it kicks. Adding in two levels of Chameleon on the rogue side only further opens the door to abuse (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=409562) . Even a normal Wiz5/Geometer2/Spelldancer 2/Magelord 10 has incredible flexibility, but is feat tight, leaving little room left for customization. For gestalt, you can replace the two levels of Iajutus Master with two levels of Chameleon (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20041210b&page=1). Take chameleon as soon as possible. [Edit] As a matter of fact, I'm closing in on a build like so: Gestalt Magelord Wizard 7/Geometer 2/Magelord 10/Spellsword1 + Ex-Monk1/Wilderness Martial Rogue 14/Swashbuckler 3/Chameleon2 |
| Korimyr the Rat04-11-05, 08:47 AM | Bard is one of those classes that, while typically seen as poor on its own, becomes particularly effective when Gestalted-- synergy. Bard/Druid has lousy MAD, but tons of options for interaction and infiltration. Physical abilities become less important after 5th-- and combining Bardic Music with spontaneous Summoning can be a useful strategy. Bard/Barbarian is a classical archetype-- the Skald-- and both classes cover each other's weaknesses beautifully. Bard/Wizard or Bard/Cleric would probably be able to have a solution for any problem the party runs into-- prepare a good selection of spells and keep a couple of slots open for mid-adventure preparation. Use your Bard spells for effects that are almost always handy-- charm effects and sonic attacks. Bard/Sorceror is nearly as versatile, and has good Charisma synergy. Reaching into non-core material, I'll second Bard/Favored Soul or Bard/Shugenja-- Charisma synergy again, plus access to a wide variety of spells. Bard/Hexblade is your best bet for a combat build. You'll have a lot of spell slots for Arcane Strike, too-- and Hexblade curses complement Bard's mind-affecting effects beautifully. Bard/Swashbuckler has potential, with Intelligence synergy. Don't Swashbucklers also get Evasion? Bard/Warmage has synergy with both Intelligence and Charisma, and both classes can cast in Light, and later, Medium Armor. One application of the Battle Caster feat, and you can throw your Bard spells in Medium Armor, too-- and if you're in a real mess, your Warmage spells in Heavy. |
