I was thinking about D&D today and i thought this would be a good idea for a class or prestige class for "Full Metal Alchemist" fans.

A state alchemist class....

it would be a fighter/spell-caster class which uses the alchemy in spell casting.

(If anyone dosnt know alchemy is the science of turning one material into another.)

I havent thought up a spell list yet but I would imagine it would let you do what you wanted (whithin reason) as long as something of equal of greater value was lost in the spell. (when i say value I mean componants not money)

alchemy also would require the character to spend an action drawing a "transmutation" circle on the ground in chalk, paint etc. before atempting the spell.

at a level (havent decided yet) the state alchemist would recieve the state alchemist watch, which allows him/her to do alchemy without a transmutation circle.

any ideas?

if you are having trouble visualising what the character would look like i found a nice pic on google...

Um... how much of FMA have you seen? I strongly suggest that you watch the rest of the series before working up this class, particularly concerning the State Alchemists' watch.

Also, I'm not necessarily sure that there's a need for a separate class here. I'd imagine that most State Alchemists would multiclass between Fighter and Transmuter (possibly loaded up with the Unearthed Arcana Transmuter variants) to varying degrees. This has the advantage that you could easily vary the amounts of time each alchemist spends training in fighting versus studying alchemy: someone like Armstrong might have mostly Fighter levels, while Ed would have mostly Transmuter levels, while Roy likely represents a more balanced set.
