Prestige Class Variants [Archive] - Wizards Community

Has anyone had experience with using either the Prestige Bard, Paladin or Ranger?

Has anyone used Test Based Prerequisites for any prestige classes rather then the traditional mechanical requirement?

04-30-07, 08:28 AM I require anyone entering a prestige class to A)Find a Mentor and then B) Fullfill any requirements the mentor requires before training.

These requirements may be payment for training, a dangerous quest to prove thier worth, or simply escorting the mentor to a nice fancy ball. Each event is RP'd, unique to the PC/PrC in question, and usually quite fun.

I had a PC wish to take Weapon Master once and his potential Mentor stipulated he had to A) Quest for an artifact to return to the Mentor (turned out to be a can of coffee beans :-P The Mentor had a sense of humor) and then B) Survive, not beat, but manage to stay upright, combat with him for 5 minutes. Once those were completed he would train the PC. He ended up having to come back 3 times before finally staying concous through the 5 minutes.

05-05-07, 12:36 PM I have no experience with them but I really don't like the prestige paladin. I think that it should not require cleric levels at all. It should be open to single class fighters.
