Yes. The cloistered cleric basically loses all it's armour proficiencies but light (Including Shield, I believe.), gets some spells added on, a lowered HD, and the knowledge domain. Basically, a more studious than martial cleric.

Extra spells per day, or an expanded spell list?

Expanded list, unless I Read the entry wrong.

What's the motivation for continuing in the class then? Once spells are on your 'list' you always have access to learn them (if you have the proper caster level).

Because it's generally understood that you don't multiclass variants of one class together. Because that's what you want to role-play.

The cloistered cleric sounds interesting, but not too powerfull :D But pretty good for real roleplaying.
( Looses all combat abbilities for a few extra spells and his knowledge feats.
I hope i am right with this. ) )
Maybe I'll modyfie it a bit. :D

Thanx for ur answers guys.

Cloistered cleric? No, no, no. What you're looking for is the Healer!
(Ahhh! Please don't kill me! It was a joke!)

The Cloistered Cleric makes an excellent Scribe / Diviner type character. They also get Lore (a la 'bardic lore' / 'loremaster lore') and increased skill points and all knowledge skills, speak language, and decipher script as bonus class skills.

I rather like the Cloistered Cleric, although I'll continue to use my own variations, a homebrew Priest (Prs) class and (instead of a Pal or Clr) a homebrew Temple Guard (Grd) class. Not as scholastic, but for healing ability (lay on hands instead of spontaneous casting, albeit using such on a non-worshipper has risks).

Oh, and you might want to look at the thread entitled: 'Ua Srd?' The person posting the thread was also curious about the Cloistered Cleric, and I gave a more detailed responce there.

"What's the motivation for continuing in the class then? Once spells are on your 'list' you always have access to learn them (if you have the proper caster level)."

That is not true. For each class your character has a separate spell list and a separate caster level.

For example your character is a wizard2/cleric9. Your magic missile does 1d4+1 damage. You cannot cast fireball. Your cure serious woulds heals 3d8+9. You cannot prepare wizard spells with your cleric slots, nor can you prepare cleric spells in your wizard slots. Everything is separate. You can use your scribe scroll feat for either class, but beyond that there is little synergy. This is why classes like the Mystic Theurge exist, to make multiclass spellcasters less horrible.

I just think, his spellpower is to weak.
I mean he is THE Divine Spellcaster. ( although the cleric has more spells than a wizard! ( U can see: the divine spells have to be much less powerfull then the arcane ones. ) The cloistered looses all his fightfeats ( BAB , HD , whatever ) and gets some knowledge feats. ( Notice: I really think that is a very good solution but he shoud get more spells or something like that. )

Maybe ill add another ( or two :D ) Domainspell(s) per Level and reduce the HD to 4 ?
( But is that enough ( Power ) ? I tried to give him access to higher leveled spells earlier, but that is a pretty dangerous thing. ( Level 9 spells on 15th, broken ? )

I think they also get the bard/ranger amount of skill points as well, which lets you out-knowledge the fancypants know it all wizard for once. :P

The Cloistered Cleric (henceforth CC) is not meant to be the 'ultimate' divine caster. He is meant to be no more nor no less a divine caster than the typical cleric. In exchange for the higher HD, higher BAB, and increased armor proficiency, the CC gains Lore (one of the better free knowledge abilities), an expanded spell list (albeit, non-combat spells - but better scribe / divination spells, once you add in the Knowledge domain spells), more skills points (+2), all knowledge skills, and a little more.

He is the scholastic cleric - not the warrior cleric. If you must insist on giving him more power, do not give him more spells or more combat ability. Instead, since he is meant to be the knowledgeable one, grant him minor abilities similar to those gained by the other (supposedly) knowledgeable class: the wizard.

1) Grant him a familiar. But limit the familiar to a creature that is 1 HD or less and the favored animal of his deity's religion.

2) Grant him Scribe Scroll as a free bonus feat at first level.

Of the two above, I would most likely grant the second. The first seems out of character for most CC - more of a wizard thing, really.

Also, recall that clerics have as much skill and right to create new spells as a wizard, and the CC is most likely the clerics that actually created many of the spells used by clerics. Encourage the CC to create new spells based on cleric only spells or based on his domain. For instance, if the CC has the Sun domain, encourage him to occasionally create spells based on light &/or undead harming / turning. Perhaps he even gains a slight advantage when creating spells of that type.

Anyway, these are just some ideas to consider.

giving him more power, do not give him more spells

Why not? He studies his hole Life the divine magic things , why he shouldnt get a "really" ( from the gamers view , ( im not poweregamer, notice that :D ) ) powerfull abbility?

OR

Which Class have i to take, if i want to play the "ultimate dibvine spellcaster " but with the clerical divine Powers, what i call a priest. ( Not a shugenja or something. )

The number of spells they get per day is the same. That is the maximum ANY "ultimate" divine spellcaster should receive. As for the cloistered cleric studying all the time, recall that he studies his religion all the time! That Lore ability he gets can be used on any question of his reiligion, and although it does not state such in the text I would grant a synergy bonus from Knowledge (religion) to the Lore ability when dealing with his own religion. His magical skill is the same as the normal cleric, but his combat abilities have been traded in for knowledge abilities: Lore, all knowledge skills, a couple more skill ranks (which are supposed to be placed in knowledge skills), and a few more divination / scribe type spells. Also, note that one cannot multiclass a cleric / cloistered cleric.

What are you really looking for? Tell me, and I will make a class to match your needs. So far I am of the opinion that what you really want is a divine sorcerer with turning instead of a familiar. Is that about right? If so, then go with it, but recall that 1) domain spells take presidence when he is learning new spells (ie: his first two spells learned every level must be from this two domains), 2) he cannot change his spells known except as the Sorcerer can - and his domain spells cannot be traded out ever, 3) if he multiclasses with a cleric (or cloistered cleric) the caster levels do not stack and you must track his spells known (as a div sor) separately from his spells prayed for (as a clr or cc), 4) he can only choose his spells known from the cleric spell list (not including his domains, which come first anyway).

Is that about what you want? It is not an official class, but it should be potent enough to meet your needs. Such a character, however, should be less a member of the established church than a prophet sent to either guide or redeem the church. Some such prophets are honored by the church as living saints. Others are decried as heretics and put to death. If you're playing in a world where deities are not distant (in the sense outlined in DDG) then your character risks death whenever he interacts with the religious figures and institutions of his patron deity.

Oh, and he must have a patron deity. Otherwise he is likely to be considered a dangerous heretic to any / all religions. While the Good religions may not kill him (depending on his alignment, actions, etc) they may decry him as much as the Evil religions.

Hmm, on second thought, I think there is a core class spontaneous divine caster. But IIRC it is in the minature's book / complete divine (Favored Soul, or some such name), and I think its number of spells per day is less - although it does receive some nice bonuses, IIRC.

That he does. Three good saves, Weapon Focus and Specialization for the deity's weapon, Energy resistance, DR, and wings. And he knows an average of one more spells then the sorcerer, with the same number of spells per day. Good package, I'd say. One drawback: Wis effects DCs, but Cha effects spells per day.

FYI, i've seen many priest variants on the classes/prestige classes boards.
