Question on Bloodlines [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-09-04, 03:26 AM When a character takes a "Bloodline level," does she still get the bloodline benefit listed for that level? For example, a creature with a major bloodline must take a bloodline level at 3rd instead of a character level. This is considered an actual level for the purpose of determining caster level, max skill ranks, etc. But is it considered a level for the purpose of gaining bloodline abilities? I'm inclined to say yes, but I can't find the answer in the text (feel free to point it out if I'm just overlooking it). If it's not there, I'd like some opinions.

10-11-04, 08:48 AM Accualy by taking a bloodline level you are paying for all of the bonuses that you have recived. Its one of those rare times that the game lends you something and intends for you to pay it back.

Example:
Ev'ylon is a 11th lvl Sorceress with a minor Devil bloodline. At lvl 4 she got +2 on bluff checks, at lvl 8 she got the Dodge feat. Her player did a lot of good rollplaying as a manipluative devilish sorceress during the last quest, and now she gets to gain a level and pick lots some cool 6th new spells... or does she? NO! Instead she has to give up her 12th character level (basicly her CL+1) and gain +1 to Charisma. She can allways take that 12th level in sorceress later, if she wants to...

This prosess allows the players to become monster races slowly, without having to go through unclassed character levels or forcing the DM to make things harder so that it would pose a challenge to Rag'nok the Half Dragon Barbarian.
