Queston about buying off Level Adjustment [Archive] - Wizards Community

I got a Half Celestial/Drow which is LA+6 (+4 Celestial +2 Drow) he wants to use the unearthed Arcana house rules to buy off his LA. I don't really understand how that works was wondering if anyone could explain what lvl he'd be able to buy off each LA point at?

10-07-07, 09:54 AM I'm not sure about the rules in UA, but I would say that he can create a level 15 character with the XP required for level 15 and then start with that character without any xp adjustment, just as if he would be a regular level 15 character.

10-07-07, 11:44 AM the patern for LA buyoff is this: (going off memory here, so there may be a flaw or two)

Take the character's level adjustment, multiply by 3. when the character reaches this level, upon his next level, the character may Opt to buy off 1 point of level adjustment instead of gaining that level.

So in this case, 6x3 =18, so upon attaining enough XP to reach level 19, he could spend the Xp that is the difference between level 18 and level 19, and reduce his level adjustment to +5. Now, while he would now read as being a level behind his allies, and be behind by one class level for now, he would start gaining Xp at a slightly faster rate, and eventually come close to catching up with his allies.

The next time he could buy off an LA, would be 18 + (5x3)= level 33

You make the calculation off the new level adjustment.
