Has anyone made rules for quickdraw duels (with either melee weapons or guns) that doesn't require pouring skill points into OA's Iaijutsu Focus skill, or that doesn't require building a character around it?

Something simple, streamlined, and that can't be abused in regular combat. Preferably something that incorporates existing rules rather than making completely new ones.

For example, an idea I had earlier today was that in a quickdraw duel, the attacks are considered coup de graces. The characters roll initiative, then make a single attack each. If the attack hits, it's automatically a critical hit and if damage is inflicted, the character hit has to make a Fortitude save (DC 10 + damage dealt) or die (-10 HP), possibly with the option of reducing them to exactly 0 HP instead.

A duel has to be agreed to by both participants, either in a verbal or non-verbal way. In otherwords, both participants know (out of character) that they're getting into a duel; you can elect not to participate by simply saying so and performing some other action, even attacking (thus turning it into regular combat). Standard rules for constructs and creatures immune to critical hits apply.

...wow, hey, that's actually pretty good. What do you guys think? Do you have any rules for duels, either melee or with firearms?

Replace the Iaijutsu skill with base attack bonus and proceed to use the existing duel mechanics.

Or, try this. Pity the search funtion isn't working. I'm just lucky this happens to be on the same page I was looking at. Seems a pretty good idea.

Deceptively simple and startlingly appealing! I like your idea very very much.
